A teenager has been arrested after eight cars were damaged in a hit-run crash in Melbourne's east overnight.

Police allege a black Holden Calais crashed into the parked cars on Holland Road in Blackburn South about 1.40am.

Investigators were told two people who were inside the sedan abandoned that car and fled in another.

Victoria Police said a 19-year-old man from Narre Warren in Melbourne's south-east was arrested in Blackburn South just before 10am and is under police guard in hospital.
