An alleged gunman is on the run after one man was fatally shot and another was injured in Melbourne.

Multiple shots were fired outside a Craigieburn shopping centre on Mindrock Avenue just after 3pm.

Police say a man was killed at the scene. He has not been formally identified.

While a second man was seriously injured and has been taken to hospital.

Police have established a crime scene and are in the early stages of the investigation.

No arrests have been made.
