In many islands of the Caribbean homes lack formal addresses, due to factors like streets not having consistent names and homes not having numbers. So people will often have to use addresses like ” the green house on the corner behind the third pink house up the hill.”

This can lead to problems in delivering mail, having emergency services attend at the right place, reporting utility failures, utility billing, and  problems with navigation and mapping. For example taxis may not be able to easily find addresses.
