An innocent medical student has died a month after being seriously injured in a crash during a police pursuit

Lidija Faamau, 21, was studying a Bachelor of Medical Science at Western Sydney University.

She spent a month fighting for life after the crash on December 10.

Police said a 17-year-old boy, who was on bail at the time, reached speeds of 140km/h during a pursuit before colliding with a car in Sydney's south-west at 11pm that night.

The stolen ute allegedly drove through a red light.

It smashed into Faamau and her two female friends as they drove down the Hume Highway in a BMW.

Her friends have now been released from hospital.

The 17-year-old man has been charged with eight offences and remains before the courts, NSW Police said.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
