CCTV shows police chase ending at most unlikely destination

Air Wing vision has captured the moment police discovered a man hiding in a shopping centre rubbish bin after allegedly leading officers on a chase across Melbourne's south-east suburbs.

The 40-year-old man was tracked to a shopping centre off Hall Road in Carrum Downs this morning after he allegedly fled police earlier in the day.

Using the Air Wing overhead and shopping centre security cameras, police were able to pinpoint his location to the centres' loading docks.

Police tracked the 40-year-old to a dumpster in the loading dock of a Carrum Downs shopping centre.

Officers lifted the lid to the dumpster to find the man, dressed in an orange hi-vis top, huddling inside.

He climbed out, where he surrounded by officers on the ground and arrested.

Police were originally alerted to the driver around 10am when witnesses called Triple Zero to report a Holden Commodore travelling erratically in Mt Eliza.

Police attended and tried to pull the car over on Gulls Way in Frankston South, but the driver allegedly fled from police.

The man jumped out of the rubbish bin, where he was arrested by police.

The 40-year-old Dandenong man has been interviewed in relation to his driving.

The Holden Commodore was impounded.

Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
