Experts warn of dangerous conditions over multiple states

Large swells across the East Coast have prompted warnings as wet weather continues to linger across parts of NSW and Queensland.

Damaging surf conditions, creating potential for coastal erosion, are forecast for parts of the Sunshine Coast down to Coolangatta and into NSW's north today.

At the same time, a hazardous surf warning extends from the Sunshine Coast down to NSW's south, and people are being advised to stay out of the water.

Dangerous conditions are expected to ease over the weekend.

The Bureau of Meteorology said that in Queensland, affected areas could include Gold Coast, Maroochydore, Coolangatta, Noosa Heads, Moreton Island and Rainbow Beach.

In NSW, Tweed Heads, Byron Bay, Yamba, Evans Head, Ballina and Mullumbimby are all being warned too.

The dangerous conditions follow a wet week across Australia's east and are expected to ease later into the weekend.

A deep low in the Tasman Sea is enhancing winds and swells over south east Queensland waters today and during the weekend.

Despite rough conditions easing, damp conditions are expected to resume next week, particularly across the south-east.

Some computer modelling of the expected conditions points to heavy rain developing over parts of Victoria, NSW and Tasmania on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Some parts of these states could also be in for thunderstorms, snow and blustery winds.

Conditions in Queensland are expected to clear up over the weekend, with rain becoming a possibility later next week.
