Donald Trump too busy to attend son’s wedding

Donald Trump has announced he won't attend his son's wedding, saying he is too busy.

The president flagged yesterday that he might not attend the nuptials in the Bahamas this weekend, and confirmed it hours ago in a Truth Social post.

"While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so," he said.

"Congratulations to Don and Bettina!"

Trump Jr, 48, officially married his second wife Bettina Anderson, 39, on Thursday in Palm Beach County, Florida.

But the ceremony will be held on a private island in the Bahamas.

CNN reports the wedding will be a small event with just 50 guests. With the president not attending, security will be substantially reduced.

Trump Jr married his first wife Vanessa Haydon in 2005 at the president's country club Mar-a-Lago.

Vanessa Trump announced yesterday she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. She is currently in a relationship with Tiger Woods.

The president was scheduled to spend the weekend at one of his golf clubs in New Jersey, but has cancelled it to be in Washington instead.

Yesterday Trump appeared to still be on the fence about attending his son's wedding.

"He'd like me to go, but it's going to be just a small, little private affair, and I'm going to try and make it," he said.

"I said, 'You know, this is not good timing for me, I have a thing called Iran and other things."

Trump described his son as "a person who I've known for a long time".

Today the president was in New York state at a campaign event for a Republican congressman Mike Lawler.

In his speech, he railed against Democrats' focus on affordability.

"They came out with the word 'affordability'," he said.

"They are the greatest bulls— artists. I was in the office two days!"

He also spoke at length about his success in cognitive tests, as well as railing against transgender athletes, Joe Biden and crime in cities.

At one point during the speech he referred to Lawler as a "pain in the ass".

In one of the few Republican-held seats won by Kamala Harris in 2024, Lawler is a top target for Democrats in November's elections.
