Police horse allegedly attacked at Sydney protest recovering well

A police horse allegedly attacked during an illegal anti-lockdown protest in Sydney at the weekend is recovering well.

Photos and videos emerged of a man with knuckle-dusters appearing to strike the horse, named Tobruk, and later that night two men were charged with a range of offences including animal cruelty.

Tobruk, who was spooked but uninjured, has been lapping up treats from the public.

The police horse has been showered with gifts including carrots and liquorice.

Senior Constable Patrick Condon from NSW Police's Mounted Police Unit said the thoroughbred "performed brilliantly" at the protest on Saturday.

"The community support following Saturday has been brilliant, very encouraging," Senior Constable Condon said.
