Perth great-grandfather turns 106

A Perth great-grandfather has celebrated his 106th birthday.

Ex-customs officer Gordon Ewers said his secret to living a long life is simple.

"Live sensibly, breathe regularly, think positively, and live hopefully," Mr Ewers told 9News.

Gordon Ewers, who turned 106, said the secret to long life is living sensibly and breathing regularly.

"I'm well. The bloke inside the failing body, the bloke inside is alright," Mr Ewers told 9News.

The supercentenarian still lives on his own and said he doesn't view his 106th birthday as an achievement.

"I can't say it's much of an achievement, it just happened to me, which I'm very happy for it to have done," Mr Ewers said.

His daughter Shirley Burton said she isn't surprised her father has reached this milestone.

"He's always been very easy to get on with, takes life as it comes," Ms Burton said.
