Pilot dies in light plane crash on the Nullarbor Plain in WA

A man in his forties has died in a light plane crash on the Nullarbor Plain in Western Australia.

The plane crashed in the Caiguna area, about 350 kilometres west of the Western Australia-South Australia border, about 9.30am on Friday.

Western Australia police said the man, who was the pilot, was the only person on board.

Initial reports suggested the aircraft was a Cessna, however the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATBU) says the plane involved was an "amateur built" Jabiru recreational aircraft.
