Federation reports one additional case of coronavirus disease

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — The Federation has confirmed one additional case of coronavirus disease. The international traveller landed in the Federation on January 17, 2021 from the United States.

The patient has been in quarantine at one of the COVID-19 certified hotels since arrival. The patient was duly notified and is now in isolation.

This additional case brings the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases to 39 with 27 cases for St. Kitts and 12 cases for Nevis. Thirty-six cases have fully recovered with zero deaths. There are now three active cases.

These patients are stable and are being monitored. We continue to adhere to the ‘St. Kitts & Nevis Health and Travel Protocols,’ which can be found at https://www.knatravelform.kn.

All front-line workers continue to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols along the corridor of containment between the ports of entry and hotel/accommodation sites.

The Ministry of Health assures the public that the following measures are being taken to restrict the spread of coronavirus:
• In-depth contact tracing to effectively assess the front-line workers with whom the recently diagnosed cases might have interacted; and
• Quarantine, monitoring and testing of contacts as indicated.

The Ministry of Health and Federal Government assures all citizens and residents that every effort is being made to prevent the spread of this virus locally.

With reports of the SARS -CoV-2 variant in the region and with increase in cases locally more and more persons are adhering to the COVID-19 prevention and control measures. These include:
• Wearing a face mask when in public places;
• Maintaining good hand hygiene:
• Maintaining physical distance of at least 6-feet from others when in public places: and
• Avoiding crowd s and events.

These control measures work, and we are encouraging you to continue. Let us work together to maintain and protect the health and well-being of the people of the Federation

US: GOP Leader Calls New Congresswoman a ‘Cancer’ for the Party

(CNN) Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell issued a tacit rebuke of controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, slamming the Georgia Republican’s “loony lies and conspiracy theories” as a “cancer” for the party.

“Loony lies and conspiracy theories are cancer for the Republican Party and our country,” McConnell said in a statement. “Somebody who’s suggested that perhaps no airplane hit the Pentagon on 9/11, that horrifying school shootings were pre-staged, and that the Clintons crashed JFK Jr.’s airplane is not living in reality. This has nothing to do with the challenges facing American families or the robust debates on substance that can strengthen our party.”

While McConnell did not name Greene directly, his statement stands as a scathing rebuke of the freshman Republican House member. The Hill first reported on the statement.

Greene quickly shot back on Twitter, asserting that “the real cancer for the Republican Party is weak Republicans who only know how to lose gracefully. This is why we are losing our country.”

Greene has faced backlash since a CNN KFile report last week found that she had repeatedly indicated support for executing prominent Democratic politicians in 2018 and 2019 before being elected to Congress. Amid an uproar over her past comments, video of Greene confronting Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg before she was elected went viral Wednesday.
