Police are continuing the search for a four-year-old girl missing in rural Tasmania.

Shayla Phillips was last seen in her backyard around 2.30pm yesterday in the Stormlea area in the island's south-east.

Police don't suspect her disappearance is suspicious, but have not ruled it out, officers said today.

She went missing while playing with two dogs belonging to a neighbour.

One of the dogs returned home soon after and the other was later found "some distance away".

Inspector Gavin Hallett from Tasmania Police said Shayla's mother went to check on her daughter after leaving her for about 30 minutes, and found she and the dogs were not there.

"That's not an uncommon thing, Shayla knows the dogs very well and is very fond of them," Insp Gavin Hallett said.

The mother looked in the house and around neighbouring properties but couldn't find Shayla.

Police launched a search, with thermal drones, the SES and Westpac Rescue Helicopter also helping.

"We've got an idea as to the distance a four-year-old girl could travel and we're using that as the perimeters of the search area," he said.

"An indicator for us was that the dog was found in an area quite some distance away.

"Her mother is very stoic, very strong and positive, and is hopeful that we will find Shayla today."

She was wearing pink leggings, a light yellow top and gumboots.

She has long, brown, curly hair.

Officers said they are concerned about Shayla's welfare, with temperatures dropping to 11C last night, though woodland could have kept her warmer if she was in there.

Police have said they don't want anybody else to try and help with the search.

More than 50 years after Natalie Scheublin was murdered in her Massachusetts home, a suspect has been arrested.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced that 76-year-old Arthur Massei has been charged with first degree murder connected to the 1971 death of Ms Scheublin.

Ms Scheublin, a 54-year-old Bedford wife and mother of two, was found dead in the basement of her home on June 10, 1971.

Prosecutors said Ms Scheublin had been tied up, stabbed multiple times, and struck in the head with an unknown object.

"This is a very bittersweet day," Ms Ryan said, noting it has been a "horribly long" wait for the Scheublin family.

"Today we were able to call her son and daughter and tell them that we were taking the first step in holding to account the alleged perpetrator."

Ms Scheublin's husband, who was the president of Lexington Trust Bank at the time of her murder, came home and discovered his wife's body. It appears Ms Scheublin had not been killed long before her husband returned home.

Nothing of value was taken from inside the home. Ms Scheublin's car was stolen after her murder.

The 1969 Chevy Impala was found less than a mile away at the VA Hospital.

The vehicle appeared to have been intentionally wiped down, but investigators were able to locate several partial fingerprints. In 1999, investigators used new technology to identify Massei as a candidate for review in a national FBI database.

Years later, further investigation allegedly confirmed the prints belonged to Massei, who denied being in the home and killing Ms Scheublin.

Massei allegedly later told investigators that he had been solicited by an organised crime associate to kill the wife of the banker and make it look like a break-in, but that he had turned down the job.

Ms Ryan said that there has been no evidence showing that Ms Scheublin's husband had anything to do with a plot to kill his wife.

Ms Ryan said Massei had no known connections to the home or to Ms Scheublin.

After Ms Ryan's office created a new cold case unit in 2019, the case was given a more in-depth look. During that time, detectives identified a woman who they said admitted she had been involved with Massei in schemes to defraud banks in the 1990s.

She said Massei "habitually" carried a knife, and bragged that he had killed someone with a knife.

A grand jury indicted Massei on Tuesday, and he was arrested without incident later in the day.

Massei is expected to be arraigned Wednesday in Woburn Superior Court.

Alison Young now lives in the home where Ms Scheublin was killed more than 50 years ago. She said her family only knew some basic details about what happened to Ms Scheublin decades earlier when the house was under different ownership.

"It was crazy to find out when I was younger too to find out that kind of thing happened in our house. It's good to know the person is behind bars now," she said.

"Definitely a little weird just to know everything that happened in those walls."

Hundreds of stolen bikes have been discovered in a UK backyard, with the pile was so big it was visible via Google Earth satellites.

The stash was discovered by Thames Valley Police in Littlemore, south-west of Oxford last week.

In a statement, police confirmed a man had been arrested following the discovery of the allegedly stolen horde.

A Russian journalist working for the independent news site The Insider was killed in a shelling incident in Kyiv, the outlet said in a statement on Wednesday.

Oksana Baulina had been filming the shelling destruction in the capital's Podilskyi District by Russian troops when she came under rocket fire.

Another civilian died with her, The Insider's statement said. Two people accompanying her were also wounded and hospitalised.

Baulina went to Ukraine as a correspondent and filed "several reports" from Lviv and Kyiv, The Insider said.

"The Insider expresses its deepest condolences to Oksana's family and friends," the outlet said in the statement.

"We will continue to cover the war in Ukraine, including such Russian war crimes as indiscriminate shelling of residential areas where civilians and journalists are killed."

The Insider's statement did not say when Baulina was killed. But soon after it was released, colleagues took to Twitter to mourn her death.

Baulina was a "journalist with a phenomenal sense of moral clarity," former colleague Alexey Kovalyov said in a Twitter post.

Prior to joining the outlet, Baulina worked as a producer for the Anti-Corruption Foundation founded by opposition leader Alexei Navalny, according to The Insider, adding that "after the organisation was listed as an extremist organisation, she had to leave Russia in order to continue reporting on Russian government corruption for The Insider".

Navalny spokeswoman Kira Yarmysh called Baulina a "courageous and honest, excellent journalist."

"[S]he was our steadfast upstander and would always help," Yarmysh said.

"I don't even know how to speak about her death and can't even imagine all of this."

Christo Grozev, an investigative reporter at Bellingcat, called her "an amazingly brave Russian journalist" who was "killed by her own country's army shelling civilian areas in the Podol district in Kyiv".

"She was killed while reporting on the damage caused by the shelling," Grozev added on Twitter.

Baulina is the fifth journalist killed in Ukraine this month, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists and other press freedom activists.

Gulnoza Said, the committee's Europe and Central Asia program coordinator said Baulina's death is "another demonstration of the cruelty of Russia's war on Ukraine".

Multiple news crews have come under fire while covering the war.

Filmmaker Brent Renaud was killed outside Kyiv on March 13.

His colleague Juan Arredondo was seriously injured. Arredondo wrote on Instagram earlier this week that "five surgeries in, I have a long way to recovery."

The next day, two members of a Fox News crew, Oleksandra Kuvshynova and Pierre Zakrzewski, were killed. Correspondent Benjamin Hall was severely injured.

At the beginning of the month, a Ukrainian camera operator, Yevhenii Sakun, was killed when a television tower was shelled in Kyiv, according to CPJ.

"Ukrainian and Russian authorities must do everything in their power to ensure the safety of journalists and all other civilians, and to thoroughly investigate attacks on members of the press," the group said.

Six teenagers, one aged just 13, have been charged with murder over the "profoundly violent" death of a teenager in Melbourne's north.

The death of 16-year-old Reservoir boy Declan Cutler has been described as "one of the most vicious and brutal attacks" police officers have seen.

Early Wednesday morning, Victoria Police announced they had charged a 17-year-old Taylors Hill boy, a 17-year-old Tarneit boy, a 15-year-old Hoppers Crossing boy, a 16-year-old Yarraville, a 14-year-old Meadow Heights boy and a 13-year-old Meadow Heights boy with murder.

A 17-year-old Clifton Hill girl was released pending further inquiries

Police allege Declan was fatally assaulted and stabbed in Coburg in the early hours of Sunday, March 13.

Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Bob Hill said many experienced police officers had described the attack "as one of the most vicious and brutal attacks they have ever investigated".

"This was a profoundly violent criminal act," he said.

Mr Hill said he understood Declan's death had shocked and distressed many people in the community.

"The senseless nature of this incident should not be lost on anyone – I know it has impacted our police," he said.

"I know many will be horrified by the young age of those arrested today but let me be very clear: we will be relentless in pursuing anyone responsible for this level of violence regardless of their age."

Following Declan's death 10 days ago, police alleged an "incident" happened at a party in Coburg, which hours later led to the assault and death of the teen.

After the 16-year-old left the party with friends, police said the group were chased by a dark sedan with a number of people inside through Reservoir.

Declan is believed to have been separated from his friends when he was attacked at about 2.30am on March 13, police said.

Declan was treated by paramedics and police but died at the scene.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing and police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has other information to come forward.

Two other teens were arrested over unrelated manners. A 19-year-old South Melbourne man was charged with burglary and other offences, while a 15-year-old Werribee boy was released pending further inquiries.
