BVI Hosts Pool Procurement Party For Pharmacists, But Its Not What You Think.

The Government of the Virgin Islands hosted the first OECS-Pool Procurement Services (OECS PPS) meeting for Chief Medical Officers and Chief Pharmacists from November 26 to 28.

The meeting, in partnership with the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), aimed to ensure that high-quality and affordable medicines are consistently available in member states at reasonable prices.

Hurricane Season Not Over Until It’s Over, But Its Over.

he 2024 Atlantic hurricane season is wrapping up, and it has been notably active.

There were 18 named tropical storms, 11 of which became hurricanes, with five reaching major hurricane status (category three or higher). On average, a season produces 14 storms, seven hurricanes, and three major hurricanes. While some records were equaled or broken this year, the activity was uneven, with a surprisingly quiet middle period despite the usual peak in September.

Jamaica Going Nuclear, But Slowly.

Jamaica is actively exploring the idea of including  nuclear energy as a source of generating electricity.

On October 22, 2024, the Jamaican government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited and Canadian Nuclear Laboratories Limited to advance the adoption of nuclear technologies in the country.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness emphasized that this partnership reflects the government’s commitment to diversifying Jamaica’s energy portfolio with clean and sustainable alternatives.

Canada Post has been on strike for two weeks, and many businesses are losing money because customers aren’t getting their orders delivered.

Donald Trump Threatens Trade War If BRICS Drop The Dollar.

Donald Trump, former U.S. president, has warned the BRICS nations not to create a currency that could replace the U.S. dollar.

These nations include Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and other newer members like Egypt and Iran.

Trump said he would put 100% tariffs on goods from these countries if they take steps to reduce the dollar’s importance in global trade.

Lights Not Fires Is Christmas Message From Jamaica Fire Brigade.

The Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) is urging citizens to take extra precautions in the home and on the roads during the Christmas season.

Commissioner, JFB, Stewart Beckford, told JIS News that based on the data, it is important for persons to be extremely aware of the potential risks associated with this time of year.

“When it gets to Christmas, we usually see an uptick in fires in the home and motor-vehicle accidents on the road… and so we are asking and pleading with members of the public to be safe,” said Commissioner Beckford.

Barbados Inmates Learning Bartending Behind Bars.

Over 30 inmates of the Barbados Prison Service have completed some courses administered by the Jean & Norma Holder Hospitality Institute of the Barbados Community College.

The courses were sponsored by the National Peace Program (NPP) and 10, 14, and nine inmates completed Bartending, Food and Beverage, and Basic Cooking, respectively.

Trudeau Flies To Florida For Pre-summit With Trump Over Tariffs.

The Globe and Mail, citing unnamed sources, stated that Trudeau was in Florida to meet Trump.

CNN later confirmed that the two leaders were expected to dine together Friday night at Mar-a-Lago. Canada’s Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc is accompanying Trudeau, as reported by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
