A frustrated Bunnings customer has reignited debate over whether pets should be allowed in stores.

The customer took to social media to criticise the hardware store's pet policy after they claimed to have come across dog droppings in an aisle.

Sharing a photo of the incident, the shopper claimed they own and love dogs but the situation was "getting out of hand".

"I had to stand there to warn people then dash off to find a staff member only to return to the scene of the crime to see a woman and her trolley roll right over it," they claimed.

"A friend I saw not long after, told me later that not 10 mins after our encounter, she witnessed a woman clicking her fingers in the air to get staff attention to come and clean up after her dog."

The shopper claimed only a week prior they had witnessed a dog fight at the service desk.

"Why are we allowing non service dogs into a hardware shop? It's a shop, not a dog park," they said.

Bunnings confirmed dogs are allowed in store if they're friendly, on a lead and under control at all times and that staff can refuse entry if they display aggressive behaviour.

"We've been welcoming pets into our stores for many years and love the feedback from customers about how much they enjoy having their four-legged companions with them while they shop with us," Bunning chief customer officer Rachael McVitty told 9news.com.au.

"The feedback we receive shows that the vast majority of pet owners are respectful of other customers and our team when they're in our stores.

"We work hard to make sure our stores are safe, welcoming environments for everyone and we're disappointed to hear one of our customers had a negative experience.

"We encourage any customer to reach out to one of our team members if they see or experience something we should be aware of so we can resolve it on the spot."

A man in New South Wales has been arrested and charged over the 2021 theft of almost a tonne of silver bullion, worth more than $1 million.

A shipment of 192 five-kilo bars of the precious metal – a total of 960kg – was being transported from Sydney to Melbourne in late November 2021 when it was stolen.

The alleged theft wasn't noticed until the truck carrying the consignment arrived in Melbourne. Police in NSW were notified, leading to the formation of a strike force to investigate.

Almost three years later, a 40-year-old man was yesterday arrested at Wee Jasper, a small village in the Yass Valley, about 60km north-west of Canberra.

He has since been charged over the heist.

"He was taken to Yass Police Station and strike force detectives executed search warrants at Bargo and Tahmoor property seizing electronic devices and business records for forensic examination," police said.

"The man has since been charged with larceny and armed with intent to commit indictable offence."

The silver bullion, which was worth $1.015 million in 2021 and is now valued at $1.4 million, is still yet to be recovered.

The man is due to face court in Goulburn today.

A much-loved English teacher is being remembered after her remains were found at a waste facility in Melbourne's north last week.

The body of Annette Brennan was allegedly stuffed inside a wheelie bin at her home Coolaroo and discovered by staff sorting green waste at a tip in Epping, about eight kilometres away, on July 3.

A 45-year-old man was taken into custody this morning and is expected to be charged by police this evening.

It's understood the pair were known to each other.

Brennan's students today gathered to pay tribute to the 67-year-old following the shock discovery.

"She was amazing, I'm really shocked," former student Simona Croce told 9News.

"She was beautiful, loving and a kind woman."

Brennan moved into her Hilgay Street home just two months ago, telling neighbours she was looking for a housemate.

Over the weekend, detectives used a locksmith to access that same address where they would spend 10 hours combing through it and the bins in the backyard.

The news of Brennan's death has rocked the Coolaroo community.

Croce described the English teacher as being like "a second mum".

"No one deserves to be treated this way, no one," she said. 

Investigators believe Brennan's body was inside a bin that was picked up outside a property on Hilgay Street in Coolaroo on Tuesday.

Staff at Repurpose It, a waste facility in Epping, would make the grim discovery.

Repurpose It chief executive George Hatzimanolis released a statement yesterday, saying staff members were left "shaken" by the incident.

"We are deeply saddened to confirm that a body was discovered in the FOGO delivery shed at our facility last Wednesday," he said.

"Our staff members who made this tragic discovery are understandably shaken, and we are ensuring they receive the support and counselling they need."

A former V8 Supercars driver and nightclub owner has been released from court on a suspended sentence for drug possession after a more serious trafficking charge was dropped.

Wayne Jason Wakefield, 53, pleaded guilty in the Brisbane Supreme Court today to a string of charges relating to two police raids on his homes in the space of a year starting in May 2020.

Wakefield admitted 18 charges including possession of a dangerous drug in excess of two grams, possessing a dangerous drug, contravening an order to access an electronic device and possessing a controlled substance.

Crown prosecutor Jordan Daniels did not continue with six charges including one count of trafficking in dangerous drugs and those charges were dismissed by Justice Declan Kelly.

Defence barrister Anthony Kimmins said Wakefield had attended rehabilitation for abusing "a medley of drugs" as a result of his business ending up in bankruptcy during COVID-19 restrictions.

Police searched Wakefield and his residence on May 19, 2020 and found 4.8g of pure MDMA and 1.82g of pure cocaine, 0.51g of a substance containing methamphetamine and 525.07g of GBL, a chemical that converts to the drug GHB when consumed.

Justice Kelly said police were alerted to the presence of an envelope outside an apartment building in the inner-Brisbane suburb of Fortitude Valley on March 23, 2021.

"Earlier that day [Wakefield] had been captured on CCTV footage dropping the envelope … it was found to contain five clipseal bags each containing approximately one gram of substance containing meth," Justice Kelly said.

Police searched Wakefield's apartment on May 5, 2021 and located clipseal bags with 1.08g of substance containing cocaine, 0.7g of a crystal substance containing meth, three vials containing 6.48g of pure GHB and 13.97g of morphine.

Police also found a cutting agent used to dilute drugs, a large plate with white powder and a rolled-up $5 note, two electronic scales, four glass pipes, $500 in cash and $675 in casino chips.

Daniels said Wakefield had the drugs for his personal possession but some of his offending was aggravated by being committed while on bail.

Kimmins said Wakefield has used his 146 days in custody and lengthy period on bail to get off drugs and find full-time employment.

"I have known Mr Wakefield for some years. He now looks like a completely different person," Kimmins said.

Justice Kelly said Wakefield had shown genuine remorse.

"Your experience in custody was incredibly difficult and onerous. It has left you with a firm resolve to never return to custody and to avoid the circumstances that gave rise to your offending," Justice Kelly said.

He sentenced Wakefield to 15 months' imprisonment to be immediately suspended for a period of 15 months.

Wakefield said he felt "good" as he left the court building.

The woman had been visiting a care home resident before the accident.

Two teenagers who worked together to stop a school bus when the driver had a heart attack have been described as heroes.

The pair, along with more than 20 other students from Aquinas College, were on board the bus on the Gold Coast yesterday afternoon when the 70-year-old driver had the medical episode.

A teen girl, just 15 and not yet old enough to drive, and a male student managed to bring the bus under control so safely that no one was injured.

"Us students on the bus, we didn't know what was happening and everyone was screaming," Bennet Rogers said.

"She had to steer the bus so we didn't crash into a building," he added, speaking about the female student who grabbed the wheel.

The 15-year-old had help from a male student in year 12 who managed to hit the brakes. 

"We were only going like five [kilometres an hour], 10 k's, so I was like I better just stop the bus before it gets any worse," Daniel Knight said.

"She opened the door up, she was calming everyone down."

Their actions have been commended by the school in a letter to parents. The principal said there would be an investigation into what happened.

The bus driver remains in hospital and is recovering from surgery.

Many are calling for the girl to be recognised with a bravery award. That call was backed by Premier Steven Miles who told 9News he'd personally nominate her.

"She's a hero for that, definitely," another fellow student, Brodie Wilkinson, said.

"I really hope she gets an award or something."
