A struggling mother of a severely disabled girl tried to murder her daughter with a lethal dose of insulin instead of getting her the care she needed, a court has been told.

The young girl, who has a rare genetic disorder and could not walk, talk or eat normally, survived the alleged attempt to kill her but needed months of hospital care.

Her 42-year-old mother, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, admitted injecting her daughter in early 2022 and knowing it could have killed her but she denied it was attempted murder.

"(The woman) had reached the end of her ability to cope with her daughter", prosecutor Ben Stanwix told the Supreme Court in Perth today.

"She injected (her daughter) with insulin because she was deliberately trying to kill her."

Stanwix said the child's condition, in which her immune system attacked her brain and central nervous system, left her with significant neurological damage and severe cerebral palsy.

Her mother tried to give her the around-the-clock care she needed but failed to attend specialist appointments, where treatment "was readily available".

"Despite the accused's efforts, you hear evidence in the trial (the girl's) care was suboptimal," Stanwix told the jury during his opening submissions.

Instead, the mother sought help from a general practitioner who provided treatment to the child and supported the mother.

Towards the end of 2021, the woman told the doctor her daughter was deteriorating, "nearing the end of her life", Stanwix said.

"Rather than getting the … level of care she needed, the accused decided to euthanise her."

Stanwix said the woman had decided "the best thing for everyone was for her disabled child to die".

"Then she set about trying to murder her," he said.

The woman did this by allegedly convincing the doctor to give her a prescription for insulin, which can fatally lower a person's blood sugar levels when improperly used.

Stanwix said she administered the attempted lethal dose while her husband was at the beach with their other children.

Her alleged plan unravelled when her family returned home sooner than expected and found the child in distress.

The court heard the girl was taken to hospital after the "accused faffed around" and "deliberately held back information".

Medical tests revealed the girl had dangerously low blood sugar.

"From the moment (the woman) injected her daughter with insulin … (the girl's) situation was a life-threatening medical emergency," Stanwix said.

"This was simply a very sad situation where (the woman) had had enough."

The coroner said while the case was “complex and difficult”, questions still arose.

An urgent police search is under way for two brothers after a fatal stabbing in Melbourne's south-east over the weekend.

A 30-year-old man was killed after an argument broke out at a home in Ormond about 1am yesterday, and a 22-year-old man was seriously injured.

Police are now searching for brothers – Abhijeet Abhijeet, 26, and Robin Gartan, 27 – in relation to the incident.

The brothers are both of Indian descent.

Homicide Squad Detective Inspector Dean Thomas said the men fled the scene following a violent dispute.

Police arrived at the scene shortly later to find two men suffering stab wounds.

A 30-year-old man died, while a 22-year-old Noble Park was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Thomas said the parties involved in the incident were known to each other and police were still working to establish the cause of the dispute.

Thomas said a group of men, including the suspects, were drinking alcohol outside the property before the stabbing.

He said tensions reached boiling point when some occupants of the home wanted to move out.

"What investigators have gathered so far is that late afternoon to early evening on Saturday, there was party or gathering of four men, including the two suspects," he said.

"Throughout the evening there was an altercation that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning between the two suspects and the two victims, resulting with the victims being stabbed, one fatally."

They are believed to be travelling in a stolen 2014 white Toyota Camry sedan with registration 1ZO 2QW.

Abhijeet is described as being 170cm tall with a solid build and black hair, while Gartan is described as being 170cm tall with a solid build and black hair.

Anyone who sights the pair is urged not to approach them and to contact triple zero (000) immediately.

Distraught parents at an exclusive private school in Melbourne are calling for the male students involved in a vile spreadsheet ranking female students' appearances to be expelled.

Year 11 students from Yarra Valley Grammar School at Ringwood shared a spreadsheet of photographs of female students to the messaging app Discord and ranked them in categories.

The girls were ranked from top to bottom as "wifeys", "cuties", "mid", "object", "get out" and then finally "unrapable".

The school was alerted to the post last Wednesday and by Friday the students involved in creating the post had been suspended pending further inquiries.

The parents of the girls pictured in the post were notified by the school.

One father told 9News today he wanted the suspended students responsible expelled.

He was horrified at the thought of the boys returning to the same classroom as his daughter.

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan said she was "utterly devastated" to learn of the incident, labelling the act "disgraceful".

"My thoughts today are with the young women and young men they go to school with who are devastated by this news. To think they are sitting in a classroom with classmates who hold these views and write them down, this is no joke," she told reporters.

"Respect for women has to be at the forefront of every classroom, every household, of every part of the community. 

"We are seeing the extreme end of what respect for women looks like, with too many women subject to violence and too many women losing their lives. 

"I can't imagine how tough it is for those young women today."

Yarra Valley Grammar principal Mark Merry described the post as "disgraceful".

"Respect for each other is in the DNA of this school, and so this was a shock not only to us … but it was a shock to the year level and the boys in the year level that see this as way, way out of line," he said.

The final category on the spreadsheet, which referred to girls as "unrapable", was particularly concerning, Merry said.

"As a father, I find it absolutely outrageous, disgraceful, offensive. As a principal, I need to make some decisions [about] what we do about all of this," he said.

"My first impulse and concern is about the wellbeing of the girls concerned. I want to make sure they feel assured and supported by the school."

Police are being notified by the school about the use of the word "unrapable" in case there has been any criminality involved.

"We are going to be consulting the police because the language used could be an inferred threat. I don't think it was, but we need to get further advice on that … I'm hoping it was an appalling lapse in judgment," Merry said.

Fees at the prestigious co-ed school in Melbourne's east cost about $30,000 a year per student. There are 185 students in year 11.

The school holds regular "respectful relationship" classes and seminars for students throughout the school year.

There will be a meeting today for the parents of the 40 girls involved pictured on the spreadsheet.

Legendary Australian actor Brian Wenzel has died at the age of 94.

It is understood the Logie winner, known for his role as Frank Gilroy in A Country Practice, died in a nursing home in South Australia weeks before his 95th birthday on May 24.

"It is with great sadness that we remember the life of beloved Australian actor Brian Wenzel," his agent Jennifer Hennessy said.

He then played the role of Frank Gilroy on A Country Practice for 12 years.

The role of Gilroy earned Wenzel a Silver Logie Award for Best Actor in 1981.

The performer leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Linda Wenzel.

Police say Norton Kinnaird should not be approached if he is seen in public.
