Legendary Australian actor Brian Wenzel has died at the age of 94.

It is understood the Logie winner, known for his role as Frank Gilroy in A Country Practice, died in a nursing home in South Australia weeks before his 95th birthday on May 24.

"It is with great sadness that we remember the life of beloved Australian actor Brian Wenzel," his agent Jennifer Hennessy said.

"His iconic and revered performances spanned multiple Australian generations with his wit and humour shining through to the end.

"A passionate family man and devoted Carlton supporter leaves an irreplaceable mark on the Australian film and television industry."

Wenzel began his acting career at the age of 17, and notably starred as Mr Cox in Nine's The Young Doctors.

He then played the role of Frank Gilroy on A Country Practice for 12 years.

The role of Gilroy earned Wenzel a Silver Logie Award for Best Actor in 1981.

The performer leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Linda Wenzel.

Police say Norton Kinnaird should not be approached if he is seen in public.

The turbine’s opening ceremony involved traditional Japanese and Māori elements.

A new video of the sun's surface has captured an eruption bigger than the size of Earth.

The European Space Agency recently shared footage of the sun's "ever-changing landscape", which was filmed by its Solar Orbiter in September last year.

It showed golden hair-like structures of gas emerging from inside the sun, which can reach heights of up to 10,000 kilometres.

A small eruption of cooler material rising and then collapsing into the surface was also captured by the instrument.

"Don't be fooled by the use of 'small' here: this eruption is bigger than Earth," the European Space Agency said.

The bright areas seen in the vision reach about one million degrees celsius, while the dark areas absorb radiation.

The Orbiter made its closest approach to the fiery planet about 43 million kilometres away – about one third of the Earth's distance from the sun.

At the same time, NASA's Parker Solar Probe skimmed about 7 million kilometres from the surface of the sun to measure particles and the magnetic field.

"This was a perfect opportunity for the two missions to team up, with ESA-led Solar Orbiter's remote-sensing instruments observing the source region of the solar wind that would subsequently flow past Parker Solar Probe," the European Space Agency said.

Greater housing density will go ahead in the high-growth areas of Ōmokoroa and Te Puke.

Meanwhile, Hamilton City Council reports rise in false information on social media.

Rental prices across Australia are sitting at a record high, pushing tenants further away from city centres, where there are continual supply issues.

The national median weekly rent is now $627, following a 0.8 per cent rise in April, according to property data provider CoreLogic's latest rental market update.

According to the report, growth re-accelerated most strongly in greater capital areas within 30 to 40 kilometres of city centres.

This was the case for some suburbs in Sydney, where the median weekly rent for the city is $770 per week, up nine per cent in the past 12 months.

The annual growth in Campbelltown on the city's outskirts went from 9.1 per cent in October to 13.4 per cent in the year to April.

Over in Queensland, this included Jimboomba, where annual rent growth went from 3.8 per cent to 6.4 per cent in the same period.

The annual house rent growth went from 11.7 per cent to 13.1 per cent in the same period in parts of Casey in Melbourne.

"Part of the reason for the re-acceleration in rents nationally could be due to renters being forced into more affordable, peripheral housing markets as they become priced out of more desirable and central metropolitan locations," the report said.

"Areas where rents are slightly lower may offer more space for group households or have slightly less competitive rental conditions which are potentially being more targeted by prospective tenants."

The report noted net overseas migration was just under 550,000 in the year to September, with temporary visa holders accounting for more than 90 per cent of that figure.

Supply constraints have also persisted in the residential construction industry with only 173,000 new dwellings completed in the same period.

"Given there is little that can be done on the supply side for renters in the short term, reprieve in the rental market is most likely to come from a moderation in net overseas migration, as some temporary migrants start to depart, and arrival numbers normalise post-COVID," the report said.

"Centre for Population forecasts indicate this could occur from next financial year.

"Until then, renters may be seeking more shared accommodation, or exploring cheaper rental markets across the outer metro fringes or regional Australia."

The data showed pick up in regional rent growth was most pronounced in regional Queensland and Tasmania houses.

The biggest falls from the peak were across the Pilbara in Western Australia, despite surging in previous years.

"East Pilbara rents are -37.9 per cent (the equivalent of $509 lower) than the record high in October 2012," the report noted.

"In West Pilbara, weekly rents are still -24.6 per cent (or $321 lower) than in October 2011."

France has reclaimed the Guinness World Record for the longest baguette after successfully baking a whopping 140-metre-long loaf.

A crew of 18 determined bakers began the painstaking process from 3am (local time) yesterday at the Baguette Show in the Parisian suburb of Suresnes.

They started with preparation work and kneaded and shaped the dough before it was moistened and ready for baking.

Crowds gathered to watch as the mega loaf was slowly cooked through an open oven, which had been specially designed for the occasion.

It was declared the world's longest baguette measuring at 140.53 metres by 4.40pm.

"Suresnes is proud to have been the scene of this record for the longest baguette in the world which promotes a national symbol of our gastronomy as well as the artisans who perpetuate its know-how," Suresnes mayor Guillaume Boudy said in a statement. 

"I congratulate the Suresnes bakers who participated in the baking and maintain on a daily basis traditions of sharing essential to the conviviality of our city."

The new record recaptured the title from Italy, whose bakers made an 132.62-metre long baguette in the city of Como in 2019.

Once the record was declared, the baguette was partly cut and shared with the public, who had gathered in crowds to witness the event.

The remaining part of the baguette was shared with local homeless people.
