Sixty-six millionaires earning almost a billion dollars put together paid no tax last year, according to new data from the ATO.

Highly skilled accountants were able to get their clients out of over $400 million in tax.

Those accountants were paid an average of $219,000 for their services, which was also tax deductible.

Data from the Australian Tax Office (ATO) showed that those wealthy tax dodgers made an average of $14.5 million each last year.

The median income in Australia last year was $51,000, and the average Australian paid more than $11,000 in tax.

The report from the ATO showed that just short of half of its revenue came from individual income tax.

Companies paid 22 per cent of tax in Australia, or $107 billion.

Another 15 per cent came from GST, with the balance coming from super funds, excise and various other taxes.

The ATO also released other interesting data about Australian taxpayers.

Surgeons were the highest paid profession in Australia, with an average income of $457,000.

The postcode with the highest income was Sydney's Double Bay.

A man who had already been arrested has been hit with 18 further charges as police investigate the alleged indecent recording of children at a Perth sports centre.

The 24-year-old man was previously arrested on May 25, after police were called to the Craigie establishment in relation to an incident involving a child allegedly being recorded in a cubicle.

He was charged in relation to that incident and an electronic device was seized for examination.

Now, police have charged the man with a further 18 offences that relate to the initial alleged victim and four other people.

The man has been charged with 14 counts of indecently recording a child under 13 years, and four counts of indecently dealing with the child under 13 years.

He was due to appear before Joondalup Magistrates Court on the new charges today.

Federal Finance Minister Katy Gallagher has conceded she knew about allegations made by Brittany Higgins before they became public, but has denied misleading Parliament.

Gallagher has been facing accusations by the opposition that she misled Parliament two years ago by saying during a Senate estimates session on June 4, 2021 that "no one had any knowledge" of Higgins' allegations of rape against Bruce Lehrmann.

In a press conference today that lasted only a few minutes, Gallagher admitted to corresponding with Higgins' partner David Sharaz.

"I was aware of some allegations in the days leading up to the choice of Ms Brittany Higgins to make those allegations public," Gallagher said.

"Mr Sharaz provided me with information. I did nothing with that information, and I was clear about that at the time."

But Gallagher said there was "absolutely no issue here".

"I was responding to an assertion made by Minister Reynolds that we had known about this for weeks and had made a decision to weaponise it," the senator said.

"That is not true. That was never true."

She said she was not aware of the full allegations made by Higgins.

Speaking to Today earlier this morning, Indigenous Affairs Minister Linda Burney praised Gallagher.

"I have known her for a very, very long time," Burney said.

"She is incredibly competent. She is a woman of integrity and she is a woman with a very, very big heart."

Ex-Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann was put on trial over allegations he raped Higgins in an office in Parliament House.

His trial was aborted due to juror misconduct and a second trial was dropped by prosecutors in Canberra over concerns over Higgins' wellbeing.

No findings were ever made against Lehrmann, who has always maintained his innocence.
