A little boy's veggie stand has been saved by his local community after a complaint to council threatened to shut it down.

Four-year-old Leo Tyres sells discounted fruit and veggies from his pop-up stand in Gatton, Queensland.

He sources fruit and vegetables with slight defects from local farmers who cannot sell the produce due to its imperfections.

His mother, Barbra Sanchez, said his shop had a slow start, but now he is well-known in the community.

"I believe he is learning several life skills from interacting with people, (and) saving money," she said.

Despite its popularity, the fruit and veggie stand was nearly shut down after a complaint to the local council.

But nearly 2000 locals signed a petition to make sure the stand would stay open.

"(The complaint was) about a business that was operating in a residential area," Lockyer Valley Mayor Tanya Milligan told 9News.

"Like most councils, we are complaint-driven, we have an obligation to go and check it out.

"(But) it's no different to me than the old-fashioned lemonade stall or garage sale."

His business started with a bag of limes and two pumpkins – but now Tyres owns a trailer that helps him source, carry and sell as much as he can.

"I can take 10 pumpkins in the trailer, 10 pumpkins," he told 9News. 

After the petition, Tyres' fruit stand will remain open despite the complaint.

Taking the psychedelic drug ayahuasca and a frog toxin called kambo have been condoned despite a man's painful death after ingesting both substances at an alternative spiritual retreat in northern New South Wales.

Indigenous elder Uncle Andrew Johnston attended the Dreaming Arts festival in Kyogle to do a smoking ceremony and saw Jarrad Antonovich in the hours before he died on October 16, 2021.

Lying down by a tree, Antonovich complained of back pain and had a swollen neck, an inquest has heard.

"He looked kind of frog-like," Johnston said on Thursday.

Antonovich was later taken into a temple on the grounds of the Arcoora health retreat to do another ayahuasca ceremony where, still complaining of pain and moaning, he had his feet massaged before passing out.

CPR was attempted while the ambulance was called with paramedics declaring the 46-year-old man dead on the scene.

Facing questions by Antonovich's family, Johnston said he personally supported the use of ayahuasca and kambo at these types of ceremonies as they were based on the traditional knowledge of the South American people spanning back thousands of years.

The elder said that while he was "upset" at what had happened, the circumstances surrounding Antonovich's death were extremely unlikely and had "nothing at all do to" with the substances he took.

At the festival, which was held at Arcoora health retreat, Antonovich ingested a brew made with ayahuasca. He also had his skin burnt in several places where kambo was rubbed into the wounds.

Typically, the chemical substance known as kambo is scraped off the back of a live frog with a stick.

An autopsy found Antonovich died of a perforated oesophagus.

Professor Arthur Richardson, a medical specialist working at Westmead Hospital, said "repeated and severe vomiting" could have caused the tear.

Ayahuasca and kambo, which are illegal in Australia, have been known to cause vomiting with attendees at the retreat given buckets to throw up in.

Richardson said the swollen neck could have been caused by gases escaping through Antonovich's perforated oesophagus, and that 1.5 litres of water consumed during the kambo ceremony may have leaked out through the hole into his insides as well.

For someone attending hospital with a torn oesophagus, there was an 80 per cent chance of survival, the professor said.

The inquest will examine how Antonovich suffered the injury, whether this was caused by the drugs or something else, and what happened to him in the hours before he died.

The inquest continues.

That was the sound a 25-year-old woman heard from another room as her new housemate laced her drink with a sedative.

The next morning she woke up in Marco Gastello's bed. He had raped her while she was unconscious.

On July 8, 2017, the woman had moved into Gastello's Melbourne apartment after seeing it advertised on Gumtree.

They played pool and started drinking that evening.

She started coughing and Gastello poured her several vodka shots as he said it would "kill the bacteria in her throat".

He then laced her drink with sleeping pills while she was in the bathroom.

After consuming the drink, the woman found it difficult to walk but managed to reach her bedroom.

She woke up next to Gastello in his bed.

He went to the gym and she discovered white powder inside her glass and went to police after talking to a friend.

When police arrested Gastello for the rape they found child abuse material and intimate photos of women on his devices.

Further investigations revealed he had taken photos of two women without their consent, including of a 21-year-old colleague while she was drunk in bed three years earlier.

Detectives also found intimate photos of another former housemate of Gastello taken while she was asleep in March 2017, including photos of him sexually assaulting her.

It took police three years to progress the case due to staffing changes and he was not arrested or charged until June 2020.

The two women he took non-consensual intimate photos of did not find out they existed until after Gastello's arrest.

The 44-year-old was jailed for nine years and 10 months on Thursday.

He pleaded guilty to rape, sexual and indecent assault, administration of an intoxicating substance and possession of child abuse material.

Judge Marcus Dempsey said the three women were at their most vulnerable when he committed the "depraved" and "vile" sexual offending.

"Each of these women trusted you as a colleague or a housemate, your abuse of their trust is nothing short of despicable," he said.

Gastello, who has already served two years and four months of his sentence, will be eligible for parole after six years and four months.

He will be registered as a sex offender for life.
