The 2023 fundraiser is celebrating the life and work of designer Karl Lagerfeld, with the dress code being in his name.

With the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, at her rural Balmoral home in September, Charles instantly became King.

In the days that followed, he was formally proclaimed Britain's new monarch and now, after months of painstaking preparation, his coronation is almost upon us.

Heir to the throne for 70 years, Charles III will be officially crowned in a magnificent and deeply religious ceremony on May 6.

Thousands will gather at Westminster Abbey and the surrounding streets of central London to take in a display of British pageantry.

There's a lot of speculation floating around, and some elements are still being fine-tuned, but if it's official, we've got you covered.

What happens at a coronation?

The coronation is a moment of public celebration of the new King.

The fabulously over-the-top spectacle will be attended by dignitaries from around the world and watched by billions.

The coronation is a symbolic coming together of the monarchy, church and state for a religious ritual during which the monarch makes vows to both God and country.

Buckingham Palace has said it "will reflect the monarch's role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry".

What time is the King's Coronation?

The coronation of King Charles III will be held inside Westminster Abbey at 11am (London time) on Saturday, May 6. That is 8pm AEST on Saturday.

In Australia, the coronation will be broadcast live and free from 5pm (AEDT) on Channel 9, 9Gem and 9Now.

For royal fans wanting to start the celebrations early, a special edition of Weekend Today will be broadcast from 6am on Saturday.

Viewers can also relive all the magical moments of the coronation the following morning from 6am.

You can watch coverage on Channel 9, hosted by Peter Overton and Ally Langdon, in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory, and Tasmania, and on 9Gem in New South Wales and Queensland, as well as on 9Now.

What to expect from King Charles III's coronation

The coronation will see King Charles III crowned alongside Camilla, the Queen Consort in a ceremony conducted by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby.

The core elements of the service are the recognition, oath, anointing, investiture, crowning and homage.

The recognition is when the sovereign stands in the theatre of the abbey and presents to the people.

After taking the coronation oath – which is a vow to rule according to law, exercise justice with mercy, and maintain the Church of England – the monarch is anointed with holy oil by the archbishop.

This moment is considered the most sacred part of the service and wasn't televised in 1953. It won't be televised on Saturday either.

The next part is the investiture, when the sovereign is dressed in sacred coronation robes and presented with the symbols of the monarchy: the orb, coronation ring, sceptres and others.

Toward the end of the ceremony, St Edward's Crown is placed atop the monarch's head before princes and peers make their way to the sovereign to pay their respects in what is known as homage.

Some historians think elements may be tweaked to reflect contemporary society, but the majority will probably still be present.

The coronation procession and route

King Charles and Queen Camilla will travel to their coronation from Buckingham Palace in the Australian-built Diamond Jubilee State Coach.

The ceremony will begin at 11am (local time) at Westminster Abbey and will be followed by a much larger procession back to the palace ahead of the royal family's appearance on the balcony.

The procession from the palace, which will be accompanied by the Sovereign's Escort of the Household Cavalry, will go down the Mall, through Admiralty Arch and along the south side of Trafalgar Square, down Whitehall and round Parliament Square to the Sanctuary of Westminster Abbey.

Following the service, the King and Queen will ride back to Buckingham Palace in the historic Gold State Coach – one of the most challenging modes of transport ever endured by a British sovereign due to its 18th-century suspension.

The procession back to the palace will take the same route in reverse, a journey of around two kilometres.

It's expected to take about 30 minutes to return to the palace.

King Charles coronation schedule

The coronation will start at 11am (local time) on Saturday and will run for just over an hour.

This will be followed by the King's procession back to Buckingham Palace from 2pm (local time, 11pm AEST) before the royal family appear on the balcony and wave at spectators.

What will King Charles wear?

King Charles is rumoured to be dumping the succession of elaborate robes and tunics worn by a sovereign during a coronation.

Sources believe the King is "unlikely" to have as many outfit changes as his predecessors.

Instead, Charles could opt for a simple morning suit.

Will we get a public holiday for King Charles III's coronation in Australia?

There will not be a public holiday for the coronation.

How will Charles' coronation compare to Queen Elizabeth's?

The processional route and service will both be shorter.

Another difference is the number of guests.

Back in '53, so swollen was the guest list that temporary structures had to be erected within the abbey to accommodate the more than 8000 people invited.

Who is on the coronation guest list?

Speculation surrounding the names of invitees continues.

The guest list will reportedly be just 2000 and will include foreign royals and dignitaries from around the world.

Those invited will likely be many of the same people who attended Queen Elizabeth's funeral on September 19, 2022.

Australia will be represented by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his partner Jodie Haydon as well as Governor-General David Hurley and his wife Linda Hurley.

They will be joined by a range of "outstanding" people who have made contributions across the arts, sport, defence, medicine, academia and business.

Will Harry and Meghan be there?

The Duke of Sussex has confirmed his attendance at his father's big day.

However, he will be going solo.

The palace confirmed in April that his wife, Meghan, will be staying in California with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

It is understood Meghan opted to forgo the celebrations as the day coincides with Archie's fourth birthday.

Will Camilla be crowned Queen?

Yes, Camilla will be crowned Queen Consort.

But unlike the three most recent queen consorts – Alexandra, who was Edward VII's wife; George V's wife, Mary; and Elizabeth, wife of George VI – Camilla is not having a crown made specially for her coronation.

Instead, she's opted to wear Queen Mary's Crown.

Back when she paid for the silver crown in 1911, Queen Mary's intention was for it to serve as the permanent crown of future consorts.

Who will perform at the King Charles III coronation concert?

American singers Katy Perry and Lionel Richie will be headlining the performance, which will take place on May 7, the day after the King and Queen Consort are officially crowned at Westminster Abbey.

They will be joined on stage by Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, British pop group Take That, Bass baritone Sir Bryn Terfel, singer-songwriter Freya Ridings and musician Alexis French.

MasterChef judges Andy Allen and Melissa Leong have posted tributes to their co-host and close friend Jock Zonfrillo after his sudden death, with Allen saying "life will never be the same".

Zonfrillo, 46, a renowned chef and TV personality, was found dead by police in Melbourne following a 2am welfare check on Monday.

His death, which is not being treated as suspicious, sent shockwaves around the world and prompted an outpouring of tributes.

Allen, co-owner and chef of Three Blue Ducks, today penned an emotional message on Instagram, revealing Zonfrillo acted as a mentor for him.

"When I met you five years ago I knew our lives were about to change forever," he said.

"Sure, you've taught me so much about food, but it's the lessons I learnt about what it means to be a great father, husband and friend that I'll take away from our time together and will last forever.

"I'll miss the way you mentored me and every contestant that walked into the MasterChef kitchen, I'll miss you ordering the entire menu no matter how many dishes deep and making me eat every last bite, I'll miss your morning on-set coffees that made me shake from the amount of caffeine you were able to extract out of every individual bean, I'll miss the morning FaceTimes with Loz, Alfie and Isla, but overall I'll miss you looking out for me every single day.

"Thanks for making me constantly laugh and being there when I needed to cry.

"You really were the complete package mate and life will never be the same without you."

Zonfrillo joined Allen and Leong as co-hosts of MasterChef in 2019.

Leong, an acclaimed food writer and critic, said Zonfrillo was "supposed to be the bulletproof one who outlived us all".

"In that time, you showed me what true excellence looks like both in the kitchen and outside of it; your kindness and generosity, the many lives you've lived, the way you carried far more on your shoulders than most could ever know," she wrote on Instagram. 

"Thank you for challenging me daily, for making me better, my work buddy and friend, purveyor of excellent morning coffees, hater of pears, okra and nasturtiums.

"This all feels too raw to process still, I suspect it will for some time. Such is the impact of a life lived so large, with so much levity and entirely on your own terms.

"My heart goes out to your family, who were and are your life.

"A wee dram for you today, and always."

Network 10 has delayed the release of the reality cooking show's 15th season out of respect for the chef and his family.

The show's premiere was scheduled to air on Monday.

A statement released by Zonfrillo's family described him as a "proud Scot" and an "irreplaceable husband, father, brother, son and friend".

Celebrities and colleagues Zonfrillo crossed paths with have led tributes to the late star.

Darren Robertson, who co-owns Three Blue Ducks alongside Allen, said it had been a "heavy 24 hours".

"Im gonna miss you, me old mate," Robertson wrote, revealing he first cooked with Zonfrillo in Adelaide.

"He was always so generous with his time and knowledge whenever we caught up, and not afraid to give me shit about my questionable dress sense.

Zonfrillo is survived by his wife Lauren Fried and his four children.

If there's one thing you know the Met Gala is good for, it's watching the stars turn out some truly unique, eccentric and avant-garde fashion moments.

This year's theme honoured the iconic late fashion designer and former creative director of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, and Hollywood's elite spared no expense in making sure they did him proud.

Though the night is formally to raise funds for New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art, it's best known for its star-studded guest list, which is hand-picked by none other than Vogue's Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour.

A-listers such as Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman and Miranda Kerr represented Australia on the red carpet, while vintage Chanel, black and white, and asymmetric designs dominated the theme.

For the most part, the celebs went all-out paying homage to the late trailblazer, with some stars donning full body paint, bedazzled skin, dramatically modified locks and transformative face prosthetics.

There was also not one, but two pregnancy reveals.

Grammy Award winner Doja Cat and eccentric actor and musician Jared Leto went head-to-head tonight, sporting their own takes on the theme, honouring Lagerfeld's beloved cat Choupette, each in their own very unique way.

Lagerfeld is believed to have left a significant portion of his estate behind to his beloved companion, who is still very much alive today and thriving in Paris under the care of Lagerfeld's former nanny.

2. Two new A-list babies on the way

Tennis superstar Serena Williams and former Victoria's Secret model Karlie Kloss both introduced the newest additions to their respective families this evening, debuting a baby bump each on their way into the prestigious event.

3. 'Twinning' outfits 

Great minds think alike, right? US actress and director Olivia Wilde and Chinese-American born actress and filmmaker Margaret Zhang were snapped in almost identical outfits on the red carpet this year.

Each star unveiling their own take on Lagerfeld's 1983 Chloé dress.

One, white and gold, the other, black and bronze. 

4. The reveals 

What would the Met Gala be without an iconic, drama-filled outfit reveal?

The answer is very boring.

Between multi-talented artist Janelle Monáe's incredible sparkling two-piece set hiding behind an oversized pyramid-shaped jacket, Rihanna's gown beneath her rose embedded cowl, and who could forget Jared Leto in his ode to Choupette, there was a smorgasbord of reveals to choose from.

5. Couples dominate 

It was a night of superstar couples on the red carpet, with music's golden pair Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, our very own Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, Hugh Jackman and Deborra Lee Furness, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra, Taika Waititi and Rita Ora and the newlywed Peltz-Beckhams all in attendance.

6. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie 

It's a given Hollywood royalty and fellow Australians Margot Robbie and Nicole Kidman made the cut this year, but there were also a number of other familiar faces from down under strutting their stuff into the Gala.

Former Victoria's Secret Angel Miranda Kerr, actor Hugh Jackman, actor Kodi Smit-McPhee, supermodel Adut Akech, director Baz Luhrmann and F1 star Daniel Ricciardo all made the exclusive invite list.

7. Men up their fashion game

While the fashion world is largely dominated by women's wear, some of the men at this year's Met Gala gave the ladies a real run for their money.

A$AP Rocky, Sean Combs, Lil Nas X, Bad Bunny and Pedro Pascal were just a few that piqued our interest.

8. Reality TV's first family sparkle

Whether you love them or hate them, most critics are in agreement the Kardashian clan turned it out this year.

In the preceding months before the event, speculation had run rampant that the controversial family would be barred from this year's Gala, but those rumours didn't come to fruition, with Kylie, Kim and Kendall all sizzling their way along the red carpet.

Kim, arguably the most-famous Kardashian family member, even had an unplanned rendezvous with former flame Pete Davidson inside. 

9. Hairography

If you're going to make a dramatic change to your look, it may as well be on fashion's night of nights.

Cara Delevingne chopped her locks and dyed them silver in a nod to Lagerfeld's signature ponytail, Amanda Siegfried channeled Studio 54, and up and coming starlet Florence Pugh went all the way and buzz-cut her hair completely off.

10. Stars embody elegance while celebrating one of fashion's all-time greats

There's no mistaking the looks on display at the 2023 Met Gala are among the best seen in recent memory, with a dazzling mix of old and new, black and white, and colour and monochrome.

There were subtle nods to Lagerfeld, and there were some not-so-subtle nods.

As always, there were those who took risks – some of which paid off – and those who played it safe.

We saw animals, bold statements, lots of fabric and virtually none at all.

Some stars were draped in metres-long trails, others in all sheer – one in just a speedo. 

Whether you consider yourself fashion-forward, or just along for the ride, almost all will agree Lagerfeld would've felt proud of the homage paid to him at one of the most memorable Met Gala's in history.

Recreational vaping will be banned and the tax on tobacco products will increase over the next three years under a massive smoking crackdown announced by Health Minister Mark Butler.

Butler said the excise on tobacco will increase by five per cent over the next three years, starting in September, and the treatment of all tobacco products will be aligned, in a move that he says will generate more than $3 billion in tax revenue.

"These changes will raise an additional $3.3 billion over the coming four years, including $290 million in GST payments to the states and territories," the health minister told the National Press Club today.

Butler also officially unveiled the crackdown on recreational vaping during his address, which comes after the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) provided the government with a "clear road map" following community and health group consultation.

Under the plan, which Butler said would address the "biggest loophole in Australian healthcare history", the importation of non-pharmaceutical vaping products will be prohibited, meaning they will only be able to be purchased with a prescription from pharmacies.

Single-use disposable vapes will be banned, the volume and concentration of nicotine concentrations and volumes and both flavours and packaging will be required to be plain, the latter with warning labels.

"To obtain an import permit, an importer will have to show that the vapes that they propose to sell comply with new standards and processes established by the TGA," Butler said.

"They will have to be imported for sale only in pharmacies. The import of vapes for sale in retail settings will end.

"These are supposed to be pharmaceutical products so they will have to present that way, no more bubble gum flavours, pink unicorns or vapes disguised as highlighter pens for kids to hide in their pencil cases."

Butler said vaping posed a major health threat to young people.

"Vaping has now become the number one behavioural issue in high schools and it is becoming widespread in primary schools as well," he said.

"Over the past 12 months, Victoria's poisons hotline has taken 50 calls about children under the age of four ingesting vapes. Under the age of four.

"Vapes contain more than 200 chemicals that do not belong in the lungs."

The federal government will work with states and territories to close down the sale of vapes in convenience stores and other retail settings.

But it will still be legal to buy a vape with a prescription from your chemist to help smokers quit for good and Butler said the government will make it easier for doctors to prescribe them.

"Only one in 20 doctors are authorised by the TGA to prescribe vapes to those who need it. We think this has to change," he said.

"It will require removing the restrictions on doctors prescribing so that all doctors can write a script for those who really need it.

"Governments will also consider whether other proper therapeutic pathways should be examined to allow patients to obtain vapes through a pharmacy where they need them."

'Momentous' cancer screening program to start

Also announced by Butler during his address were a number of health programs to be included in next week's federal budget, including $30 million to help people quit smoking, a $260 million lung cancer screening program, and $240 million to address higher-than-average cancer and smoking rates in First Nations communities.

The green-lighting of the screening program has been called "momentous" by the Lung Foundation Australia.

Lung cancer is the nation's biggest cancer killer, with 14,500 patients diagnosed annually.

Only 20 per cent of those are alive five years later.

Lung Foundation Australia CEO Mark Brooke said it has been campaigning for five years for the scheme, which is predicted to save 12,000 lives over ten years.

"The announcement today gives much more than hope, it gives a second chance at life," Brooke said.
