Chilling CCTV shows Nashville shooter inside school

Police in Nashville have released chilling CCTV of the moments Audrey Hale entered a school building before killing three nine-year-old students and three adults.

Hale, a 28-year-old former pupil at Tennessee's Covenant School, shot through glass doors before carrying out the massacre, which is believed to have been meticulously planned in advance.

In the footage, Hale is seen driving a car – a silver Honda Fit – through the school's parking lot, before shooting at two glass doors located at the side of the building and entering via the empty frames.

The shooter, armed with two assault-type guns and a nine-millimetre pistol, is then captured stealthily creeping around the school's interior as flashing lights and alarms ring through the halls.

Hale, dressed in camouflage-patterned cargo pants, a vest and backward baseball cap, is seen in the vision opening and closing doors, surveying the area, while holding an assault rifle.

The vision was captured merely minutes before Hale murdered three children, the school's top administrator, a substitute teacher and a custodian.

Authorities say the attack unfolded in the space of 14 minutes.

Hale shot through the doors of the building to gain entry.

The first call about the shooting came in at 10.13am and the shooter was dead at 10.27am, police spokesperson Don Aaron said.

As a private school operated by a church, there was no school resource officer assigned by the city to guard the school, he said.

The victims were identified as Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney, all nine years old, and adults Cynthia Peak, 61; Katherine Koonce, 60; and Mike Hill, 61.

Koonce was identified as the head of the school on its website.

Hill was identified in the staff section of the Covenant Presbyterian Church's website, which is now offline.

He was listed as facilities/kitchen staff.

A friend of Hill confirmed his image to CNN.

Hill, 61, was a custodian at the school, per police.

After the attack, authorities found Hale had "maps drawn of the school in detail, surveillance, entry points," Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake said.

"We some writings that we're going over that pertain to this day, the actual incident.

"We have a map drawn out of how this was all going to take place."

Investigators also found the shooter may have looked at targeting another location, Drake said, but gave up on the idea after doing a "threat assessment" because the site had "too much security".

The location was also in Nashville, he said.

Police gave unclear information on the gender of the shooter.

For hours, police identified the shooter as a 28-year-old woman and eventually identified the person as Audrey Hale.

Police have referred to Hale as the "female shooter" and at an evening press conference added that Hale was transgender.

When asked for clarification, a spokesperson told CNN Hale used "male pronouns" on a social media profile.

Police believe Hale obtained at least two of the weapons legally, Drake said.

Three weapons – an AR-style rifle, an AR-style pistol and a handgun – were found.

Hale graduated from Nossi College of Art & Design in Nashville last year, the school's president has since confirmed.

'Massive' great white spotted after surviving 'infamous' attackers

A surviving victim of a pair of "infamous" shark-hunting orcas has been identified in the waters off South Africa, sporting massive scars.

The victim, a 3.5 metre female great white shark, was spotted July 2017, at Seal Island in False Bay, off Western Cape.

Photos show clear "rake marks" along the shark's side, which were left by the apex predators' conical-shaped teeth.

The 3.5-metre great white was scarred after its battle with the orcas.

A paper, published earlier this month, concludes the marks were left by Port and Starboard.

The two orcas have been hunting sharks along the Gansbaai coast, which is around 100 kilometres east of False Bay.

The pair are tearing out the livers and eating the organ, which is "packed with nutrition".

The two orcas, Port and Starboard, have been hunting sharks off the Gansbaai coast, east of Cape Town.

The marks observed on the great white sharks were on its left side, and pointed towards a fierce battle.

"The appearance of the scratches seems to indicate that they were inflicted with significant force," lead author, Alessandro De Maddalena, wrote.

"It is likely, the marks were enhanced by the vigorous movement that the shark may have made in order to escape the attack."

The orcas' conical-shaped teeth left "rake marks" along the shark's left trunk.

The shark seemed unbothered by the injuries and made "several passes around the boat" being used for cage diving.

"The shark had a massive body, with a wide trunk," De Maddalena noted.

The paper added that "predation on great whites by orcas is very rare".

The rotting carcasses of torn-open sharks first began washing up along the South African coast in 2017.

Since 2017 eight dead great whites have washed up on the Gansbaai coast.

The orcas killed five great whites sharks over a few months in 2017.

A 2022 paper, published in African Journal of Marine Science, found the sharks fled the waters after being terrorised by the orcas.

Then in July 2022, rare drone footage was shared, showing the moment at least three orcas killed great white shark.

One of the predators ripped out the shark's liver and ate it.

One of the orcas attacks the great white shark's side and eats its liver.

Alison Towner, a senior white shark biologist at the Dyer Island Conservation Trust, leading the research into the shark-hunting orcas, said the footage was "incredible".

"(It's) one of the most incredible pieces of natural history ever captured on film," she said."

Port and Starboard made their biggest kill to date this year.

From February 3 to February 22, 17 dead shark carcasses washed ashore the Gansbaai coast.

While orcas are considered the apex predator of the ocean, there's no record of one ever killing a human in the wild.

Brutal motorcycle crash that broke 14 bones of rider caught on CCTV

Footage of a freak motorbike crash that left an unlicensed rider with 14 broken bones and a punctured lung has been released two years after the incident.

The rider's motorbike collided with a car on Torrens Road in the Adelaide suburb of Woodville North in 2021. Dashcam and CCTV footage was only released today by a South Australian court as a warning to others to drive safely.

While the 29-year-old motorcyclist Brandon Verbon survived, he suffered 14 broken bones and a punctured lung and is still undergoing surgery two years later.

"There wasn't much left on my right side that wasn't broken, that's about all I can really say," Verbon told 9News.

"My shoulder's worse, I'm about to have surgery on that."

A white car can be seen turning through the intersection before the motorbike slams into the vehicle as it was headed straight down Torrens Road.

The driver of the car was fined for failing to give way, while the motorcyclist copped a fine for driving unlicensed.

The state's police minister said incidents like this are avoidable, and called on drivers to make better decisions.

"Like this and so many other incidents on our roads, it's utterly avoidable," Joe Szakacs said.

"Better decisions in a fraction of a second can be the difference between someone being injured or not injured, someone losing their life or someone getting home safe."

Trio arrested after alleged armed robberies, police pursuit

Three men who allegedly robbed multiple businesses with a machete have been arrested after they crashed their vehicle into a pole in Melbourne's inner suburbs.

Police allege two men entered the NQR supermarket on Watton Street in Werribee just after 9am, where they demanded cash with a machete, terrorising a 19-year-old worker.

The same group are accused of entering a second business, Foodworks on Cottrell Street, where one man allegedly stole cash and alcohol.

A 20-year-old, 18-year-old and 16-year-old allegedly fled the scene in a stolen grey Hyundai hatch and a pursuit was initiated by police.

Police followed the car through Werribee but the chase was soon cancelled on the Princes Freeway near Duncans Road in Werribee.

"When they got onto the freeway at 160km/h, it became too unsafe," Senior Sergeant Keith Kissack said.

Once the pursuit was called off, police were still able to track the offenders, because they were live streaming on social media.

Police spotted the car a short time later at a Moonee Ponds service station, where a second chase was started.

It is alleged that the offenders also threw a wheel brace and bottle of alcohol at officers during the pursuit.

The men lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a pole on Ascot Vale Road in Moonee Ponds just before 10.30am.

All three men were arrested at the scene.

One offender was taken to the Royal Children's Hospital and the other two are currently in custody.
