A toddler is recovering in hospital after she was bitten on the head by her family dog in Adelaide's north-west.

Alurah Walker, 2, was attacked by the family's South African Boerboel on Monday at a home in Osborne.

The two-year-old was rushed to hospital where she has since had surgery on the injuries to her face and arm, her father told 9News.

Alurah's father said she is recovering well but her family said she may need to remain in hospital until next week as she continues to heal from the attack.

The dog, called Joop, has been surrendered to the Port Adelaide Enfield Council.

As for the dog's future, it remains with the council which is continuing its investigation.

The vicious incident has sparked calls for the breed to be banned in South Australia.

Supermarkets are offering discounts on some Easter food items as the price of groceries soars during the cost of living crisis.

Australian consumers are expected to collectively spend $1.7 billion on hot cross buns, chocolates and other food this Easter, according to the Australian Retailers Association.

On average, families will spend $100 per head on food and chocolate for Easter Sunday preparations – and experts warn that it could get even more expensive after a string of consecutive interest rate hikes.

"I don't think we have soon the worst of it yet, we are still seeing interest rates going up, we are seeing budgets getting tighter," Neil Rechlin, partner at lending technology provider NextGen, said.

"I think it's going to get worst before it gets better, unfortunately.

"I think for many it's going to be a tough Easter"

Major supermarkets are doing what they can to make the holiday more affordable for the average Australian family, some slashing prices by 50 per cent.

Coles has 40 to 50 per cent off of their easter confectionary range and is offering a two-for-$6 deal on hot cross buns.

They are also offering discounts on some prawns, including $1.25 off of cooked black tiger prawns, totalling about $27 per kilogram.

Woolworths is also offering a two-for-$6 deal on hot cross buns, and have discounted their tiger prawns to $30 per kilogram.

There are also deals on some easter chocolates.

Aldi is offering the cheapest chocolates, starting at $1.50 each.

The discounts come after supermarkets reported record-high profits earlier in the year.

A young teen accused of storming two Werribee supermarkets with a machete yesterday was on bail at the time.

Aaron Kingsada, 18, is one of two men charged over a violent crime spree that sparked a high-speed police pursuit.

The chase ended in Ascot Vale, where an allegedly stolen car crashed into a home and police arrested three occupants at gunpoint.

Detectives allege the Kings Park teenager stole a Hyundai hatchback from a Werribee home before using it in two armed robberies.

Masked men stormed NQR in Watton Street and Foodworks in Cottrell Street armed with machetes.

It's also alleged they stole cash and alcohol and terrorised a 19-year-old woman and a 60-year-old woman, staff members at separate stores.

Police initiated a pursuit but were forced to call it off as the alleged offenders reached speeds of up to 160km/h on the Princes Freeway.

They were spotted an hour later at a Moonee Ponds service station, then crashed on Ascot Vale Road.

Abdi Basa, 20, and Kingsada have both been charged with a string of serious offences.

A 16-year-old dragged from the back seat remains at the Royal Children's Hospital.

Police allege they are members of the "Brotherhood" gang.

Kingsada has been charged with committing an indictable offence whilst on bail and contravening bail conditions.

He fronted court today, where his lawyer told a magistrate this is his first time in adult custody.

He suffered a wrist injury in the crash.

He and his co-accused will remain behind bars until June.

Virgin Australia is now offering direct flights between the Gold Coast and Bali for the first time – and the route starts today.

The flights will operate daily during school holiday periods and four times a week year-round for those in the Sunshine State looking for a holiday.

The airline has dropped fares to $419 return until April 3 or until flights sell out.

The route will offer more than 2000 seats between the two destinations each week in the peak holiday season and 90,000 on a year-round basis.

"Until now, services between Gold Coast and Bali have never been operated by any commercial airline, making this another milestone for Virgin Australia and our guests," Virgin Australia chief strategy and transformation officer Alistair Hartley said.

"We are incredibly excited to see this service take off."

Virgin has introduced the services due to the high demand for Bali trips across Australia.

Queensland Airports Limited chief commercial officer Adam Rowe said the direct link will make it far easier for locals to head to the holiday destination.

"This new connection makes Bali holidays quicker and easier for Gold Coast and Northern NSW locals, removing the need for connecting flights, or long trips up the motorway," he said.

"We expect the service will be particularly popular for those planning surfing or wellness retreats."

The additional flight route means Virgin operates more than 40 services a week between Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and now the Gold Coast.
