Man falls to his death while hiking near Gold Coast waterfall with daughters
A father's visit to see his daughter ended tragically after he fell to his death on a hike near a Gold Coast waterfall.
The 79-year-old man and two of his daughters were hiking the Purling Brook Falls trail in Springbrook when he reportedly slipped on a narrow section of track about midday.
He fell more than 20 metres.

One of his daughters bravely tried to climb down to rescue him but he could not be saved.
A rescue helicopter had to then winch her to safety.
The man was reportedly on holiday in Queensland from Victoria, visiting one of his daughters.
The Purling Brook Falls circuit is about 4km and is flagged as a Grade 3 hike, meaning it is suitable for most fitness levels but tracks may be steep and have rough surfaces.
The Parks and Forrest government website warns Purling Brook Falls can be a dangerous hike.
"DANGER: Sheer cliffs and waterfalls. One slip could be fatal—serious injury or death may result from walking near the edge. Keep to the track. Supervise children closely," the government website states.

Billionaire gives away his company in fight against climate change
The founder of clothing brand Patagonia is transferring ownership of the company after nearly 50 years into two entities that will help fight the climate crisis.
Patagonia is a private company based in Ventura, California, that sells outdoor apparel and equipment. Yvon Chouinard founded the company in 1973.
Patagonia said in a press release on Wednesday that, effective immediately, Chouinard and his family will transfer their entire ownership stake into two newly created entities. Those entities will ensure that the company's values will continue to be upheld — and that Patagonia's profits are used to combat climate change.

"If we have any hope of a thriving planet 50 years from now, it demands all of us doing all we can with the resources we have," Chouinard said in a statement on Wednesday.
"Instead of extracting value from nature and transforming it into wealth, we are using the wealth Patagonia creates to protect the source."
The biggest share of the company — or 98 per cent of Patagonia's stock — will now be under the Holdfast Collective. This nonprofit will make sure that the company's annual profits, about $150 million per year, will be used to "protect nature and biodiversity, support thriving communities and fight the environmental crisis".
The rest of the company's stock will fund the newly created Patagonia Purpose Trust.
This trust will create a permanent legal structure so that the company can never deviate from Chouinard's vision: That a for-profit business can work for the planet.

"Two years ago, the Chouinard family challenged a few of us to develop a new structure with two central goals," said Patagonia CEO Ryan Gellert in the press release.
"They wanted us to both protect the purpose of the business and immediately and perpetually release more funding to fight the environmental crisis. We believe this new structure delivers on both and we hope it will inspire a new way of doing business that puts people and planet first."
Patagonia has long been known as a conservationist company and has been outspoken on hot-button issues outside of its stores over the years. Patagonia's corporate activism is a large part of its brand identity.
In 2017, the company sued then-President Donald Trump over his administration's move to dramatically shrink two national monuments in Utah.
"The president stole your land," Patagonia's website said at the time. "This is the largest elimination of protected land in American history."
The company emerged as one of the most vocal corporate opponents of Trump's environmental policies.
Last year, Patagonia CEO Ryan Gellert called for companies to join the brand in pressuring Facebook to fix its platforms and the company donated $1.5 million to voting rights groups in Georgia.

Caddick inquest: Husband 'may have helped' Melissa Caddick hide
An investigator overseeing the disappearance of Melissa Caddick has told an inquest her husband's reporting raised alarm bells and he could have assisted the fraudster in hiding.
The other dominant theory eastern suburbs crime manager Detective Inspector Gretchen Atkins was also told by the officer in charge was that Caddick had self-harmed due to the pending investigation into her million-dollar fraud, the inquest heard.
"(Detective Sergeant Michael Kyneur's) number one theory was she had voluntarily gone missing and was potentially being assisted by (Anthony) Koletti," she said.

"Does that amount to an offence on Mr Koletti's part?" Jason Downing SC, counsel assisting the coroner, asked Atkins on Thursday.
"(I) had not turned my mind to that," she said.
But three days after Caddick was reported missing, nothing gathered in the police investigation pointed to murder by Koletti.
"There'd been searches at the house, there'd been conversations with Mr Koletti … there was no evidence of homicide," Atkins said.
"If there had been anything we would have absolutely notified the homicide squad.
"The other real possibility is she had taken her own life."

Atkins said alarm bells included the long delay in reporting and no subsequent sighting of Caddick.
Downing revealed Caddick had a life insurance policy covering suicide.
But this discovery did not change the course of the investigation, Detective Sergeant Steven Morgan said.
Morgan was brought on as a consultant into the suspicious circumstances surrounding the conwoman's disappearance in March 2021.
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission and Australian Federal Police raided Caddick's Dover Heights mansion on November 11, 2021. This is the last verified sighting of her.
In February 2021, her decomposing foot encased in a shoe washed ashore at Bournda Beach on the NSW south coast.
Subsequent experiments put forward pig carcasses wearing running shoes on their trotters fitted with trackers tossed into the ocean to ascertain sharks' behaviour.
Morgan is unaware whether this was ever conducted. However, he did speak with a "shark expert" from NSW Department of Primary Industries.
"(He had) some doubt regarding the length of time that a foot had been in the water," Morgan said on Wednesday.
He was also told of some concerns regarding the initial police search that no CCTV footage had been collected or adequately reviewed promptly, nor had a land search been co-ordinated in the early stages.
The inquest before Deputy State Coroner Elizabeth Ryan continues.
