NSW Government accused of a 'secret plan' to add new toll on Sydney Harbour Bridge

A return trip across the Sydney Harbour Bridge could soon cost drivers double, according to documents released by the NSW Government.

Labor has accused the state government of a "secret plan" to introduce a northbound toll on the bridge.

Premier Dominic Perrottet rejected the claims during Question Time today.

Premier Perrottet has rejected claims the government had decided to introduce more tolls on the bridge.

"The government has not made a decision," Mr Perrottet said.

Labor said the revelations are based on a line buried in a Transport for NSW report.

A two-way toll on the Sydney Harbour Bridge would cost motorists $3 travelling each direction.

This could set the average city worker back around $600 a year.

Currently, there is just a southbound toll on the bridge.

Labor accuses NSW government of introducing more tolls on Sydney Harbour Bridge

Opposition leader Chris Minns said the community was "outraged about the number of tolls in the city".

"Sydney is already the most tolled city in the world," he said.

"The government needs to come clean with the people of New South Wales about its sneaky plans to impose a new toll on the Sydney Harbour Bridge."

When Mr Minns was pressed about Labor's plans for tolls, he refused to rule out any changes.

"It's difficult for us to outline our policy position."

Coles to build 'mini supermarkets' inside aged care facilities

For many of us grocery shopping is a mundane task, but for people living with dementia hitting the shops can be an overwhelming excursion.

Coles has partnered with aged care provider HammondCare to build mini supermarkets within their facilities nationally.

Former NSW Premier and now Hammondcare CEO Mike Baird said the organisation's dementia-friendly village in Melbourne's east will be the first to open a mini Coles on site.

"Research shows that those with dementia — often the activity they miss the most is shopping," Mr Baird told 9News.

"It is all about independence, it is about dignity, it is about choice … about residents doing the activities they enjoy."

Coles Group CEO Steven Cain said the stores would be small in size, but big in range.

Supermarket shelves will be stocked with items that reflect the tastes of their more senior consumers.

"Quite often what they are looking for is smaller cuts of vegetables, smaller cuts of meat," Mr Cain said.

"A lot of them like brands they've got used to over their time."

HammondCare resident Una Daniel is among 500,000 Australians living with dementia.

The 83-year-old is excited about the concept of having a mini supermarket just a short walk from her aged care cottage.

"I'm very definite about what I want … and that needs to be taken into account," Ms Daniel said.

"I love soup and I love fish … and I love things like French bread."

Unlike major modern grocery stores, residents will not have to grapple with self-checkouts.

They can simply choose the items they need and take them back to their accommodation.

The first Coles/HammondCare mini supermarkets will open in Caulfield, Victoria, followed by outlets in Adelaide and Sydney.

While the final designs are still in progress, the aim is to allow visitors such as residents' family members to also patronise the little supermarkets.

Mr Cain said the supermarket giant was not eyeing off a major move into aged care, but the company was cognizant seniors account for a large proportion of their consumer base.

"As people go through their life stages from being a baby to being more elderly, we want to be able to serve them right through their life."

Mostafa Baluch is on the way to the airport after the Queensland government approved the extradition.

Moving through the night for some hours, police said Mr Baluch probably believed he'd reached his final destination, somewhere in Queensland, where he allegedly hoped to make a jump overseas.

Mr Baluch was suspected to be involved in the biggest-ever plot to allegedly import cocaine into Sydney, including 900 kilograms seized off Ecuador.

The driver was already of interest to NSW Police, Detective Critchlow said, describing the man and his trucking company as "involved in transportation but he also transports other commodities from time to time".

The Australian Federal Police, the NSW, Queensland, Victorian and South Australian police forces were involved in the manhunt for Mr Baluch.

Police allege the male driver was picked up by another man driving a black Hyundai SUV after the incident at about 7.45am.

Mr Rakei's son Ben and wife Tania Boyte today visited the site where he was killed.

Ms Boyte said the arrest of the two men had brought her closure.

"I'm glad that the police have them," she said in a statement.

"They let me know shortly after it happened and I just want to say how grateful I am to the police for all their hard work in bringing them in.

"It helps to bring a bit more closure to what has happened to us."

A 30-year-old man with no fixed address was arrested at a property on Boundary Road in Carrum Downs just after 2pm today.

He was taken to Frankston police station, where he will be interviewed by detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit in relation to the crash.

A second man was arrested after attending the same police station just after 3pm.

Mr Kilmartin said he is looking forward to being released from hospital soon.

Mr Rakei's partner, Tania, said she had received an outpouring of support from his colleagues and the community since his death.

"The support has been overwhelming," she said in a statement.

"It's so emotional and just reminds me of what a good person he was."

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.

Detectives are yet to locate the black Hyundai SUV allegedly involved in the incident and urge anyone with information regarding its whereabouts to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Extreme rain brings joy and destruction to drought-stricken town

A torrent of wet weather has pummeled the town of Stanthorpe in Queensland's Southern Downs region, sweeping away roads.

But it's not all good news, with more footage showing the destruction of a local road decimated by the rain.

Vic Pennisi, the Southern Downs Mayor, said the rain was a rare and welcome sight in the region.

"We've just come out of drought. We're actually still drought declared to be quite honest," Mr Pennisi said.

"We did have concerns in the early hours of this morning where we had to get a few sandbags out."

One Applethorpe local, Ronda Speranza, woke to find ankle-deep water filling her house.

Ms Speranza said in 40 years of living in the region, she's never seen anything like it.

"Basically I just woke up in the middle of the night and stepped out of bed and stepped into water," she said.

"The entire house, it's a five-bedroom house and every room is flooded, the bottom of every wardrobe, every kitchen cupboard.

"Everything that could float was floating outside."

Ms Speranza said she's feeling shaken, and still waiting for electricity to return in her home.

The water also damaged her fruit shop next door, requiring all produce to be discarded.

"Obviously this is the worst that's ever happened," Ms Speranza said.

"Great effort and we're thankful for his assistance."
