The death of a man found with a gunshot wound in his car in the NSW Hunter region is being treated as a targeted attack.

He was found by NSW Police when they were called to Hideaway Drive, Salt Ash, at Port Stephens just before 1.45pm yesterday.

Officers were responding to reports a car had hit a tree. When they arrived, they found a man in his Ford Ranger ute with a gunshot wound.

He died at the scene and has since been formally identified as 45-year-old David King from Tanilba Bay.

Police have been told a man was getting out of the Ford Ranger and into a white Hyundai Santa Fe shortly after the crash before the vehicle fled the scene.

A white Santa Fe was later found burnt out at Masonite Road, Heatherbrae. Police are investigating whether the vehicle is linked to the incident.

Two crime scenes were established and were examined by specialist forensic officers.

Port Stephens-Hunter detectives, assisted by the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad, have established Strike Force Breve to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

Detectives are treating this as a targeted attack.

A Hells Angels club house in Melbourne's north has been raided again as the search continues for an Adelaide man, who police suspect has been murdered.

Police stormed a Hells Angels Outlaw Motor Cycle Gang (OMCG) club house in Thomastown this morning but did not find Kerry Giakoumis' body.

The raid follows police carrying out searches of the Jacksons Creek area in Diggers Rest this month to try to find the Adelaide man's remains.

According to Victoria Police, this morning's search of the Lipton Drive club house followed new information they were given in their investigation into Mr Giakoumis' disappearance.

The club house is the last place where the 29-year-old, who police believe was not a patched member of the Hells Angels OMCG, was known to have been seen, back in the early hours of Wednesday, 10 June 2020.

Mr Giakoumis had arrived in Melbourne from Adelaide on 5 June, 2020 with two people who police believe are members of the OMCG.

He had told his family that he was planning to do concreting work in Melbourne.

Mr Giakoumis regularly spoke with his family after he arrived in Melbourne.

But he stopped contacting them on Wednesday, 10 June 2020, when he didn't board his flight home to Adelaide.

A taskforce has been established to investigate Kerry’s disappearance and suspected murder.

Police believe it is likely a dispute occurred on 10 June 2020, which may be connected to members or associates of the Hells Angels OMCG.

Detectives searched several properties, including the Thomastown clubhouse, in June last year.

Several public appeals have also been made since Mr Giakoumis' disappearance and investigators are again asking for anyone with information to come forward.

Detectives are particularly keen to speak to anyone who has information about what happened at the clubhouse or any other location in the early hours of 10 June.

They would also like to hear from anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the Jackson’s Creek area around the time Mr Giakoumis went missing.

Police have released a new image of a man they are trying to identify as part of this appeal.

This man was seen in a group of men who were in company with Mr Giakoumis on the night of his disappearance.

Director Spike Lee has quietly cut from his documentary so-called "9/11 truthers" who believe the World Trade Centre was destroyed in a controlled demolition.

Lee's recent retreat to the editing suite, reported by the New York Times, comes hard on the heel of curious comments he made about his film, which appeared to give some credence to widely debunked theories spouted by self-described 9/11 truthers.

The changes, which cut 30 minutes from the film, have been made to the fourth and final episode of NYC Epicenters 9/11-2021½ — produced, directed by and featuring Lee — which is scheduled to screen on September 11, the 20th anniversary of the attacks.

Before making the edits, the Oscar-winner gave an interview to the Times, where he spoke about a conspiracy theory the towers had been brought down by an insider group.

"I mean, I got questions," Lee said of his decision to let conspiracy theorists from the Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth speak at length in the film.

"The amount of heat that it takes to make steel melt, that temperature's not reached," Lee said, in reference to conspiracy theorists questioning how and why the towers fell.

"And then the juxtaposition of the way Building 7 fell to the ground — when you put it next to other building collapses that were demolitions, it's like you're looking at the same thing."

Lee's comments immediately raised eyebrows and drew criticism for giving conspiracy theorists a prominent platform to air their views.

The film, which has been previewed by media, also features reputed scientists and engineers involved in federal 9/11 investigations.

After two hijacked planes crashed into the North and South Towers, investigators concluded intense fire caused steel girders to buckle and expand, ultimately bringing down both towers.

Following a wave of criticism, Lee declared he was "back in the editing room" and making changes.

Neither HBO, which is screening NYC Epicenters 9/11-2021½, or Lee have commented on the decision to edit.

A total of 2977 people were killed after a group of hijackers took control of four US commercial planes and crashed them into targets in New York and Washington.

Lee's NYC Epicenters 9/11-2021½ also looks at how New York City was ravaged by the coronavirus pandemic last year.

South Australian Labor senator Alex Gallacher has died, a year after he took leave because he had been diagnosed with lung cancer.

As a mark of respect, the Senate will be adjourned until tomorrow.

Mr Gallacher had represented South Australia in the Senate since 2010.

He was born in Scotland in 1954, and came to Australia 12 years later with his parents.

"We in Labor are very proud of Alex," Labor leader Anthony Albanese said in parliament this afternoon, when it was announced Mr Gallacher had died yesterday, aged 67.

"He was a conscientious, no-nonsense man.

"He dedicated his life to the interests of working people both as a trade unionist and as a senator."

Prime Minister Scott Morrison called Mr Gallacher a "servant of Australia … who loved his adopted country (and) who loved the party he served."

"His father headed out here, in Senator Gallacher's own words, for a better chance for him and his family," Mr Morrison said.

"That's what this country is all about, that's the country he served."

As a Senator, Mr Gallacher focused on the transport sector, superannuation and road safety.

During his political career, he was Chair of the Senate Foreign Affairs and the Defence and Trade and Economics References Committees.

"Despite his illness and deteriorating health, Alex was determined to remain a Senator," Labor's Penny Wong said.

"Even after his diagnosis was announced in January 2020, he continued to work as much as he was able to."

He had joined colleagues and participated in sittings of the Senate in Canberra as recently as June this year, she said.
