The family of a man who was swept into the ocean in Sydney on Good Friday have pleaded with authorities to keep looking for him.

Police say Adshaiyan Arunasalam, 24, from Parramatta was swept off the rocks in the huge swell which battered the coast over Easter.

Extensive searches were carried out for him.

Now his family, say they their "hearts are shattered", and they just want to "bring Akshayan home".

They want underwater searches launched.

"Every moment since has been an agonising wait, filled with uncertainty and grief that words can hardly express," they said in a statement.

"We are deeply thankful to the police, Surf Life Saving guards, and emergency services who have supported us through these dark days with their tireless work and compassion.

"But with each day that passes without specialised underwater searches, our hope grows more fragile.

"We make this urgent and heartfelt plea to the authorities: please, deploy all available resources."

Six people died in drowning incidents over Easter, in what NSW Surf Life Saving said was the worst toll on record.

On Easter Sunday there were 50 rescues in NSW with another 100 lives saved since Good Friday, 30 of them involving the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

A nasal spray that's having life-changing impacts on people living with depression is set to be listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), slashing the cost and improving accessibility.

It's the first time in three decades that a new type of depression medicine has been added to the subsidised list, a decision that's expected to help up to 30,000 Australians.

"It really has been a concoction of things that you trial and feel let down by," Hockey said

That's until they qualified for a clinical trial testing Esketamine.

"At the time it felt like a last resort option for me," Hutcheon said.

"I started to notice that things improved almost immediately."

Esketamine – or Spravato as it's known on the market – is a nasal spray that increases glutamate levels in the brain.

That's the chemical messenger that impacts a person's mood and thought processes.

"About half the people who've had treatment-resistant depression experience a significant improvement in their quality of life, a significant reduction in their symptoms," Professor Ian Hickie from the University of Sydney said.

Consultant psychiatrist Associate Professor Liz Scott said: "We think that in some people it's going to put them into remission, and long-term remission."

Patients start with treatment twice a week then extend to weekly and fortnightly doses.

They have to fast for two hours before and be supervised after receiving the spray.

They also can't drive for the rest of that day.

After years of testing it's being added to the PBS.

Hutcheon called it a "gamechanger" and Hockley said it was "just a miracle".

The spray will officially be listed on the PBS on Thursday, reducing the price from about $800 a week to $7.70 per dose for concession card holders, and $31.60 for everyone else.

Patients will also have to cover the cost of visiting a private clinic to be given the medication and be monitored.

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli says there are signs the government's new youth crime laws are working, with a small reduction in some offences.

The opposition though is accusing him of trying to duck a pre-election pledge to set year-on-year targets for crime victim numbers.

"We've seen a reduction in the order of about 8 per cent in stolen cars and break and enters," Crisafulli said.

But he said levels were still too high and more "adult crime adult time" legislation set to enter parliament this week.

There are still questions over whether the premier is matching all his tough talk from from before the election.

During Nine's election debate he said: "We'll be setting targets for fewer victims, year on year, and that is important to me."

But no specific year-on-year targets have yet been released by the government.

When asked what the target was he said "to go down".

"Well, we addressed that before the election … I said to you fewer victims of crime," he said.

Opposition Leader Steven Miles said: "For someone who speaks a lot about putting KPIs on, he seems pretty keen on not putting a KPI on this one."

The battle over youth crime numbers will resume in parliament this week, with debate to also focus on the cost of new hospitals, energy, and past forensic lab failures.

New legislation is set to be introduced so 40,000 DNA samples aren't automatically destroyed before they can be re-examined.

"This is all about faster access to justice," Attorney-General Deb Frecklington said.

Public health authorities are warning Victorians to be on alert as measles spreads through the community at a scale that hasn't been seen in more than a decade.

Of the 23 measles cases recorded in Victoria so far this year, almost half were transmitted locally.

The highly contagious viral illness often causes cold and flu symptoms, a fever and a red, blotchy rash.

In some cases, measles can lead to serious complications, including pneumonia and brain inflammation.

"Of the first 20-odd cases, around nine ended up in hospital, which is quite serious," Victoria's Chief Health Officer Dr Tarun Weeramanthri said.

In the US, two Texas children have died from the disease this year after vaccination rates dropped in the country.

Health officials fear Australia could be at risk of the same fate as vaccination rates fall, with fewer than 91 per cent of children fully immunised.

"Very regrettably, a few children do die and we just don't want to see that in Victoria," Weeramanthri said.

In Victoria, the disease is typically brought into the country by returning overseas travellers after Australia eliminated the illness in 2014.

In 2021, local cases again dropped to zero.

This year, cases have already surpassed last year's total of 16.

There are now 15 active exposure sites across Victoria, including Fitzroy, Collingwood, and Cockatoo.

The last known exposure site was at Kilmore District Hospital Urgent Care Centre on Wednesday, April 23.

Symptoms can take up to 18 days to develop.

The measles vaccine is free and available from your GP.

If you are immunised within six days of being exposed, it can prevent serious illness.

"It's one of the most effective vaccines we have," Weeramanthri said.

"It's 95 per cent effective with one dose and 98 per cent effective with two doses."

A man who allegedly broke into the home of television star Asher Keddie before being tackled by her husband while attempting to steal a motorbike has been bailed.

James Powell, 44, is accused of breaking into a garage belonging to Keddie and her acclaimed artist husband Vincent Fantauzzo on the morning of December 28.

The court was previously told while he was wheeling out a $40,000 Ducati Scrambler motorbike, with the helmet in hand, Keddie heard a noise before discovering the alleged thief and screamed for her husband.

Fantauzzo ran down the side path of their St Kilda home yelling for Powell to stop and reached for the accused's shoulder when Powell turned and allegedly swung, connecting with the artist's face in an effort to escape.

But the artist tackled the accused, leading to a scuffle on the ground where Powell was allegedly restrained with the help of a passer-by until police arrived.

The accused lost consciousness shortly after police arrested him and paramedics had to be called to take him to hospital, with a drug overdose possibly brought on by the physical confrontation.

Powell appeared before Melbourne Magistrates Court via video link from Ravenhall Corrections Centre today where he was bailed by Magistrate Vincenzo Caltabiano.

The magistrate imposed strict bail conditions, including living at his mother's Altona address and not leaving the state or contacting any prosecution witnesses.

Powell must also abide by a 9pm to 6am curfew and is required to comply with the requirements of his court support program, including engaging with NDIS provider Prestige Community Care, and intervention orders.

Powell's lawyer told the court his mother had been in contact with his NDIS provider and they were prepared to work in collaboration to ensure he succeeds with the program.

Wearing a green prison jumper, the accused asked the magistrate if he was able to travel into the CBD on Tuesday for his first appointment.

"Get there early. If the appointment is at 2pm, get there at 1.30pm," the magistrate responded.

Powell has been charged with aggravated burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, trespass and unlawful assault.

He has previously indicated he would fight the charges.

Fantauzzo is a world-renowned artist who has won the Archibald Prize's People's Choice Award four times and painted former prime minister Julia Gillard's official portrait on display in parliament house.

Keddie is best known for her role in Australian drama Offspring where she won the Gold Logie and has won the Most Popular Actress Logie five times in a row.
