Drone spotted delivering cigarettes to hotel quarantine on Gold Coast

A woman undergoing hotel quarantine on the Gold Coast has breached her isolation conditions after receiving a packet of cigarettes delivered via a flying drone.

A man is believed to have been operating the drone from outside the Crowne Plaza at Broadbeach last Sunday, July 11.

The drone was observed delivering a packet of cigarettes to a woman in hotel quarantine by flying to her balcony.

The sneaky exchange was spotted by a hotel staff member who notified police and interviewed the quarantining woman. 9News understands that a man and woman were spotted outside the Crowne Plaza at Broadbeach last Sunday July 11 with the former operating the drone.

Police have since given the woman a $1,300 fine for the stunt.

The drone operator may also face penalties from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority for breaching safe flying regulations.
