A man has been charged with attempted murder after an alleged stabbing at a Perth backpackers.

At the hostel on Hay Street at about 11.05pm last night, two men were in the communal kitchen area, when one of the men allegedly stabbed the other multiple times with a knife.

A 27-year-old man was taken to Royal Perth Hospital in a critical condition.

A 34-year-old man was arrested and charged with one count of attempted unlawfully to kill.

He is set to appear in court today.
