Out-of-control car flies through multiple lanes of traffic before crash

An incredible near-miss has been caught on camera in Darwin after an out-of-control car sped across multiple lanes of traffic and crashed into a business.

At about 5pm yesterday, a Toyota Hilux was driving towards Darwin City from Coconut Grove, towards a multi-lane highway.

The traffic camera shows the car speeding past the other cars queued for the freeway, through the moving traffic, and then, astonishingly, between cars queued at a red light – without hitting them.

The Hilux was eventually halted after it crashed into a business on the other side of the highway.

The two in the car, a female driver and a young child, were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the drier allegedly lost control and failed to make a turn, sending the vehicle careening across the highway.

"It is incredibly lucky no-one else was injured in this incident," Superintendent Daniel Shean said.

"Drivers are reminded to always drive with due care and attention."

Officers are continuing to investigate.
