Sydney teen fined $35k over COVID-19 restrictions

A Sydney teenager has been fined $35,000 after he breached COVID-19 restrictions to travel to Byron Bay while infected with the virus.

Kristian Radovanovic, 19, and his father travelled to Byron Bay from Rose Bay, in Sydney's eastern suburbs, during the most recent lockdown while infected with COVID-19.

The teen has been slapped with a $35,000 fine for the breach during a court hearing today.

Kristian Radovanovic has been fined $35,000 for breaching COVID-19 restrictions during the latest lockdown.

The fine also included failing to wear a mask or signing in using a QR code while in Byron Bay.

A warrant was almost issued for the teen's arrest after he failed to turn up to his sentencing today.

But a court heard Mr Radovanoic is in Serbia caring for his grandmother.

A magistrate described the 19-year-old as "lazy, uncaring and irresponsible".

"Mr Radovanovic did not care at all about the rest of the community," the magistrate said.

"He was not just lazy, but quite uncaring and irresponsible in his approach to the court orders."

"In my view, that means breaches are serious breaches."
