A man has been hospitalised after being shot in Maryborough.

Police allege a fight broke out between two groups near Walker Street around 9.30pm.

The man in his 30s was shot and seriously injured during the altercation.

He was transported to Hervey Bay Hospital and then airlifted to Princess Alexandra Hospital where he remains in a stable but critical condition in intensive care.

Police have not disclosed where the man was wounded.

Investigators are urging those with information or anyone who witnesses anything suspicious in the area to come forward.
