Police are probing the motive behind a drive-by shooting in Sydney's west overnight that left bullet holes in the home of the infamous Skaf family.

Officers were called to the Greenacre home around 9pm on Sunday after reports shots were fired at the home.

No one was injured and no other property was damaged.

Police believe it was a planned and targeted attack after the getaway car pulled into the street at 6.25pm, laying in wait for two-and-a-half hours.

The property is home to members of the Skaf family.

Brothers Bilal and Mohammed were convicted of a series of gang rapes in Sydney's south-west in the 1990s.

Bilal remains behind bars and Mohammed lives at the Greenacre property on strict parole.

Younger brother Hadi, who was not involved in the crimes, also lives at the home.

Detectives are now investigating whether the target of the shooting was Hadi, 22, who was in court last week after being charged with possessing a loaded firearm in public.
