Victorian mum 'haunted' by truck crash that forced her into labour

Exclusive: Demi Bree Hudd had always dreamed of becoming a mum.

Then a terrifying, high-speed encounter with a truck almost ended two lives and that dream in an instant.

She and her unborn son managed to survive the crash, but the stress of the near-death experience sent her body into labour when she was only 35 weeks pregnant.

Her injuries meant she could not endure labour, leaving doctors having to perform an emergency caesarean.

She believes that her dad forcing her to buy a car with a five-star ANCAP safety rating, instead of "the older, cool car" she had wanted, also protected her and her son.

In response to claims about the roads, a spokesperson from the Department of Transport has said, "We appreciate community feedback and we'll continue to monitor the area, along with councils and Victoria Police, to assess if any potential improvements are needed."

"Road safety is a shared responsibility – we urge everyone to drive to the conditions, pay extra attention and look out for each other on our roads," the spokesperson said.
