A plane has gone missing in the Northern Territory.

The single-engine aircraft was carrying a pilot and a passenger when it set off from Gove in the Top End yesteray at 8.30am yesterday local time.

It was due to land in Katherine at 10.30am the same morning.

Authorities were alerted to its absence yesterday afternoon.

The search continues.

Police are urging anyone who may have seen the plane between Gove and Katherine to contact them on 131 444 and quote reference number 10212740.
