Three horses recaptured after breaking loose in southern Sydney

Three horses who gave Sydney drivers the shock of their lives this morning after they were spotted galloping through traffic have been safely recaptured by police.

The trio – believed to have escaped their home in Brighton Le Sands – were found all the way in Taren Point, almost 10 kilometres away.

A very confused South Sydney local named Michael spoke to 2GB's Ben Fordham this morning saying he "had to pinch himself" when he looked out his car window.

"I just pulled into the petrol station to fill up," he said.

"I thought it was a dream.

"There was another guy there who who said: 'did you just see that?'

"And I said: 'I'm so glad you said that'."

Police have since confirmed to 9News that the three animals have been safely recaptured and brought to safety.

Inspector Luke Scale with NSW Police said the horses have been returned to owners.

"We've got the horses," he said.

"There in the industrial estate at Taren Point, they're being collected by the owners as we speak."
