Man charged with murder over Noosa death

A man has been charged with the murder of an 87-year-old man in Queensland's Noosa Heads last month.

Noosa local John Kerr died shortly after emergency crews were called to the scene on Hastings Street about 6am on Sunday June 18.

Kerr was found with severe facial injuries and lying face up on a boardwalk path.

A 27-year-old Gympie man was taken into custody the next day and has today been charged with murder.

Police say the two men did not know each other.

They are due to provide more information this afternoon.

Police have established a crime scene at the place where the man was found by bystanders.

Kerr was a well-liked and respected member of the Noosa community.

He was a grandfather to nine grandchildren and had been a member of the Noosa Golf Club for 28 years.
