A 12-year-old girl who was arrested after a woman was stabbed to death in a Melbourne apartment complex overnight is not believed to be related to the woman.
The girl was arrested after a 37-year-old woman was found dead at an apartment complex above the former Royal Hotel on Barkly Street in Footscray about 2am.
Neighbours called police to the scene.

The girl was initially taken to hospital under police guard, but has since been released and interviewed by homicide detectives.
