Australia's former most wanted man is again being hunted by police after he allegedly removed his ankle monitor this morning.

Brett Ronald Maston was last seen in Mount Lawley in Western Australia about 5.50am.

Police are urgently scouring the region for the 57-year-old and have advised the public not to approach him if spotted.

Maston is a convicted armed bank robber who has served a decade behind bars.

He has previously escaped from prison on two occasions.

He has been dubbed a "career criminal" and has tattooed the phrase "Australia's most wanted" across his back.

The former fly-in fly-out miner then started a new life in the Philippines before he was deported over an immigration matter and returned to Western Australia in 2012.

Just last year, he claimed his life of crime was behind him.
