A driver is assisting police after the body of a 47-year-old woman was found on the side of a Queensland road.

The woman was discovered just before 8am on Saturday on the side of Four AK Road in Oakey, near Toowoomba.

Police said a member of the public contacted them.

Officers subsequently located a vehicle that was in the area at the time.

Investigations are ongoing.
