Snow, rain and blustery winds are set to hit multiple states when a wintry cold front sweeps across much of southern Australia.

Gusts exceeding 90 km/h are forecast to blow through south-east South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory and parts of east and southeast New South Wales from tonight.

Tasmania is right in the firing line, with gusts reaching 100km/h and even 125km/h in exposed coastal and elevated areas in the north and west, according to Weatherzone.

The winds will then travel north, with Melbourne and parts of Victoria told to brace for a blustery Tuesday before they reach coastal Sydney on Wednesday.

The wind is expected to bring lots of rain, with Tasmania again expected to see the worst of it.

Between 40 and 80 millimetres is forecast to fall in the west and north, and 15-30 millimetres in other areas of the state by Wednesday morning.

Eastern Victoria and south-east NSW could see 40-60 millimetres, mostly in the alpine areas.

The Alps could finally see snow this week, with 15-25 centimetres expected above 1500 metres. Lighter falls of up to about 10 centimetres could be seen at altitudes as low as 1200-1300 metres.

The Bureau of Meteorology has also issued severe weather warnings for damaging winds and possible storms in parts of NSW, the ACT, Victoria and Tasmania.

A 48-year-old man has been rushed to hospital with a large knife still lodged in his hand after a violent attack at his home south of Adelaide.

The man was seen with his face and hand covered in blood as paramedics frantically treated him outside his home on Hamilton Road in Aldinga Beach this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the house to reports of an attack about 12.40pm to find the man with a knife stuck in his hand.

He was rushed to Flinders Medical Centre, with authorities saying his injuries were not life-threatening.

Witness Jayson Haywood said, "Considering it looks like a big knife, he's pretty lucky".

"From what I've seen he seems like a good dude and I've never heard or seen anything bad apart from now," Haywood told 9News.

Police swarmed the area searching for the attacker but no arrests were made.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the attack or anyone with information to come forward.

A Melbourne Airport security guard has told of how he was allegedly violently attacked by an Uber driver because he asked the driver to leave the taxi rank.

Singh suffered a fractured skull and needed seven stitches after he was allegedly attacked with a tyre iron by a disgruntled Uber driver.

The 28-year-old father says he told the rideshare driver to move after parking in a taxi rank at Melbourne Airport.

That's when Singh says the man became abusive, hitting him repeatedly on Saturday afternoon.

"No one expects someone is gonna take the weapon from the car and straight away gonna hit you," he said.

"When my daughter saw me she started crying."

His colleagues rushed to help, saying he was covered in blood.

Singh and others at the company told 9News abuse at the airport was increasing.

"I get very scared about Melbourne Airport. I don't want to go over there after that," he said.

Guards want more training and hope they can patrol in pairs rather than alone.

"We love our job. But if it's not safe for us, how is gonna be safe for the public?" one of them said.

Meanwhile, police raided a home on Georges Street in St Albans yesterday morning, and arrested a 29-year-old man.

The “terraced” lab was covered in camouflage netting and dug into the side of steep bush.

Two women have died and another is seriously injured after they were swept off rocks and thrown into the water in Sydney's south.

Emergency services were first called to the scene at Kurnell about 4.30pm and the women were pulled from the water a short time later.

Paramedics performed CPR on two of the women, but they died at the scene.

The third woman is being treated for hyperthermia and there are concerns she has a spinal injury.

Two bystanders are also being treated for hyperthermia.

It's believed they tried to help rescue the women.

The area is a popular place for rock fisherman but there is no indication that the women were fishing.

It is also notoriously dangerous. Last month two fishermen died after being swept off rocks along the same stretch of coast.

Hundreds of thousands of electric vehicles are being imported into Australia from China each year, overtaking previous demand for locally-made Ford and Holden cars.

China has become the third major source of vehicles sold in Australia, according to Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries chief executive Tony Weber.

"Year to date in 2024 over 80 per cent of all electric vehicles sold in Australia were made in China," Weber told 9News finance editor Chris Kohler.

"It's good for Australian consumers because it's putting more choice into the market and it's putting downward pressure on prices as competition rises."

Weber said Australians were purchasing vehicles for a cheaper price than in other countries due to "an incredibly open market" with few tariffs and non-tariff barriers.

"Therefore the Australian consumer gets the benefit of the best quality product from around the world at the cheapest possible prices," Weber said.

For example, a BYD Seal is for sale in Australia for about $50,000, but European car buyers may spend an equivalent of $90,000.

"We continue to see the increase in EVs, they're now eight per cent of the market last month," Weber said.

"We're also seeing the rise in hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, and around 24 per cent of all vehicles were a fuel-efficient product.

"We're seeing a change in the market where consumers are demanding low-emission vehicles, which is good for the environment."

Drive director of content James Ward said more than half a dozen new brands had announced plans to come to Australia in the past month.

"It's been an unprecedented month in the Australian new car market," Ward told 9News Melbourne.

"We're already one of the most hotly-contested and uncomplicated markets in the world.

"But there have been seven new brands saying they will start selling cars in Australia, either later in 2024 or early in 2025."
