A single huia feather is expected to fetch over $2000 at auction next week.

The parents of a young surfer who was fatally stabbed at a beach on the NSW Mid North Coast have made a plea for information to catch their son's killer.

Kye Schaefer, 21, was found with significant stab wounds beside a car on Ocean Parade at Coffs Harbour about 6.40am on May 2.

The 21-year-old was treated at the scene but died in hospital a short time later.

His parents Pam and Tony Schaefer said "no words can describe" the loss of their beloved son.

"No words can describe how we're feeling, the sheer loss of our faith in humanity," Pam said.

"The love and support our family and friends have been absolutely phenomenal, that's what's kept us out of this black hole."

Police have yet to make any arrests over the death and have not found the weapon used in the attack.

"Just be honest and own up to your mistakes in life… everyone makes them," Tony said.

"The local community have been so supportive. We thank everyone very much for the assistance and help given us through these hard times"

The pair also made a public plea to anyone with information that could assist police to come forward.

"If you think of anything at all – you may not think it is important: yet it might be something that makes the difference."

Police have been alerted after a list ranking the appearance of female students was allegedly found on a student's laptop at a school at McClelland College in Frankstonin Melbourne's south.

McClelland Secondary College's acting principal Laura Spence said the document was first raised with her by concerned students last Friday.

The list is believed to have been found on a Year 9 boy's laptop, with a spokesperson from Victoria's Department of Education condemning the behaviour as "misogynistic and disrespectful".

9News understands the list was contained to one computer.

The female students impacted by the list are now being supported by the school.

In the email sent to parents yesterday, families were reassured that the students responsible for the list have faced disciplinary actions.

The details of those repercussions have not been made public.

In a statement, Spence said the safety and wellbeing of students was the absolute top priority for the school.

"I am very grateful to the students who immediately brought the matter to my attention," she said.

"We have already taken disciplinary action and will consider any further steps when the full facts of this incident have been established."

A spokesperson from Victoria's Department of Education condemned the list.

"Misogynistic and disrespectful behaviour is entirely unacceptable in any Victorian school – and the school has rightly taken swift action," they said.

"More than 1950 Victorian government, Catholic and independent schools are signed up the Respectful Relationships initiative – supporting them to embed respect and gender equality across their entire school community and stamp out these vile attitudes to women."

"We all have a responsibility to teach students respect – and we'll continue to invest in programs that promote gender equality to embed those attitudes."

The incident comes after two male students were expelled from Yarra Valley Grammar School after compiling an offensive list ranking their female classmates' appearances.

The Department of Education spokesperson said the latest incident had been flagged with Victoria Police, but no formal complaint has yet been made.

A man jailed for attempting to possess nearly 100 packages of cocaine hidden in a shipping container will face a new trial after winning his appeal.

Mark Anthony Dumenil, 52, was sentenced to 11 years' imprisonment in February 2023 after a jury found him guilty of one count of attempting to possess a commercial quantity of imported drugs.

The Brisbane Court of Appeal on Tuesday found that Dumenil had not faced a fair trial as the jury likely convicted him using evidence against his co-defendant.

Justices Debra Mullins, David Boddice and Peter Callaghan took a few minutes to consider their judgment before ordering Dumenil's conviction be overturned.

Justice Mullins said the court would publish its reasons at a later date but earlier said she was concerned about what the jury was told.

"This is a question of inadmissible evidence being before the jury," she said.

On January 8, 2018, the Australian Border Force found 26.5kg of pure cocaine in 99 packages hidden in the roof of a shipping container that had arrived in Brisbane from Colombia.

Dumenil faced trial alongside Hashanth Arjuna Kulatunge, 53, as both Melbourne business owners were accused of flying to Brisbane to meet the shipping container at a warehouse.

Dumenil's barrister Jakub Lodziak told the appeal that the jury had not been sufficiently instructed about Kulatunge's claim that Dumenil helped him retrieve the cocaine.

"It was not conceded that (Dumenil) even knew about the hoard of cocaine. There were no fingerprints or DNA. The only evidence linking him directly was (Kulatunge's) statement," Lodziak said.

Crown prosecutor Clare O'Connor said an error was made at trial but there was other evidence against Dumenil, including covertly recorded audio.

"The strength of the case itself is overwhelming," she said.

Justice Mullins said a message needed to be sent about oversights that could have been corrected during the original trials.

"We get a number of appeals where it is quite apparent that trial counsels' eyes glazed over as the judge (summarised the evidence for a jury) and they really have to remain alert," Justice Mullins said.

There were 60 assaults during the three-month period and 26 cases of harassment.
