A brave 700kg giraffe has undergone surgery for a case of sore hoof in Adelaide, with a team of specialists having to move her neck every ten minutes to avoid complications.

After suffering from a foot abnormality and swelling over several months, four year-old giraffee Nolean went under at the Adelaide Zoo last month.

It took a team of 30 vets, zoo keepers and other experts to anaesthetise and perform a two-hour procedure on Nolean, which turned out to be caused by a bad case of hoof overgrowth.

"It was rewarding to see people with different expertise come together from across the country and work as a team to help Nolean," senior zoo keeper Arliah Hayward said.

There are significant challenges when it comes to anaesthetising giraffes safely, due to their size.

Adelaide Zoo's keepers and vet team worked alongside a team of external experts including animal and hoof specialists, experienced anaesthetic practitioners and x-ray equipment experts.

Vets and vet nurses monitored Nolean throughout the procedure to keep her stable throughout the anaesthetic procedure, collected blood samples, and took multiple x-rays of Nolean's hind feet.

The team of farriers evaluated and trimmed all four feet to address Noelene's hoof woes.

Keepers helped carefully reposition Nolean's body once she was asleep, and managed Nolean's neck to prevent complications.

Adelaide Zoo Veterinarian David McLelland said taking care of a giraffe's neck was crucial under general anaesthetic to avoid a range of complications.

"It is a long way down when a giraffe is going under anaesthetic. They can easily injure their neck as the anaesthetic takes effect, and also in recovery. Modifications to the giraffe house were undertaken ahead of time to minimise this risk.

"Once Nolean was anaesthetised her neck position was adjusted every ten minutes and several keepers massaged her neck muscles to avoid spams.

"Keeping the procedure time short is ideal for a successful recovery, so it was fantastic to complete the procedure in about an hour and a half," said David.

There are only 117,000 giraffea remaining in the wild and the species is listed as vulnerable to extinction by the International Union of Conservation (IUCN)

The outcome of the procedure was good news for Nolean, with x-rays showing an old healed injury in her fetlock.

Nolean was back on her feet shortly after the procedure and the dedicated team of keepers and vets closely monitored Nolean while she recovered from the anaesthetic.

Nolean is now moving around her habitat well as she gets used to her 'new shoes'.

Police are hunting for two men who were captured on CCTV leaving the wreckage of a deadly car crash this morning.

Emergency services were called to the crash at Maxwells Avenue in Ashcroft about 11.50am today after the car slammed into a tree and power pole, killing two boys believed to be aged between 10 and 15. 

The graphic vision, which 9news.com.au has chosen not to show in full, shows two men, one dressed in a dark hoodie and the other in hi-vis, clambering out from the carnage while the body of one boy lies lifeless on the driveway of a property.

One of the men attempts to move the body before he and the other man disappear out of frame.

A dirt bike rider, believed to have been trailing the car, is also filmed circling the crash scene before riding off.

Police said there is "a concerted effort" underway to locate the missing men.

Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden from NSW Police said the vehicle had been travelling "well above" the 50km/h speed limit before the crash.

"The vehicle has lost control, has impacted with a telegraph pole, causing the Falcon to be separated in half," McFadden said.

"Quite dramatically. Unfortunately, we believe that two males seated in the rear of the vehicle, aged between 10 and 15, were ejected from the vehicle and are deceased.

One witness told 9News she ran out from her house when she heard a loud crash sound.

"I came out, I go and say 'Oh my God, the car cut in half'," she said.

Another neighbour described the incident as "another tragedy that shouldn't have happened".

"Simple as that," he added.

McFadden said a wide-scale search was underway to locate those involved in the fatal crash. 

"There's now a concerted effort with combined resources from our commands supported by our aviation branch and the dog squad to identify and locate the driver and the front seat passenger," he said.

Police have cordoned off a residential street while officers have been seen scouring nearby scrubland with the assistance of sniffer dogs.

It's understood police may also be looking for the rider of a dirtbike who was seen trailing the vehicle.

"We're looking for that driver to present himself so we can speak with him," McFadden said.

"We don't know what role if any he has played in the crash. It's an active line of investigation."

McFadden said the investigation was in its early stages but there was no indication the sedan was stolen. 

"Just seeing the scene from the side of the road looking at the absolute destruction that's taken place to this vehicle," he said.

"And the loss of two young lives being ejected from that vehicle, anyone who would have witnessed that crash will no doubt be traumatised by it."

A crime scene has been established, which will be examined by specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.

No other injuries have been reported at this time.
