Tanveer Safdari didn't leave the side of Massoud Massoud until he was reunited with his son on Monday evening.

But just hours earlier, the pair had been involved in a road rage argument in Dandenong, in Melbourne's south-east.

As the pair exchanged words, Massoud's car was allegedly stolen by a third man with his two-year-old son Mohammed inside.

Massoud jumped into Safdari's car within seconds as they teamed up to follow the Kia Carnival before they lost sight of the vehicle.

"The car was gone. I said, 'Come to my car' and we followed the car together," Safdari said.

"It was important – my heart broke because it was a human being.

"I wanted to help."

The pair remained together until they got the good news Mohammed had been found.

He was found walking around at Ferntree Gully Woolworths by a member of the public, 16km from where the car was stolen.

The Kia was found dumped near Lilydale yesterday. Police will forensically examine the car before it can be returned.

Police arrested Kyle Bell, 24, around 2pm yesterday in Dandenong.

The Dandenong man has been charged with child stealing, theft of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

The court heard Bell was on bail at the time.He will remain in custody until he fronts court again next month.

Work has ground to a halt on Brisbane's Cross River Rail project as investigations continue into how a man fell up to 10 metres from scaffolding yesterday.

The 54-year-old worker remains in a critical condition in Princess Alexandra Hospital after falling onto a concrete surface at the Boggo Road station site in the city's south about 1.15pm, striking several obstacles on the way down.

9News understands the man was not wearing a harness.

All work at the site has been stopped while a Workplace Health and Safety investigation is underway.

"It is not clear to me at this point whether a harness was required or whether there were safe workplaces within scaffolding that needed to be adhered to," Transport Minister Mark Bailey told media this afternoon.

He said he would be working with the contractors, union representatives and workers to ensure adequate safety practices were in place.

The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority said it is cooperating with the investigation.

It said safety checks were being conducted across all the project's sites and support is being offered to staff.

"Our continued thoughts and prayers are with the worker, his loved ones and his colleagues," the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority said in a statement.

"This is a very sad incident, and its impact is being felt right across the project today.

"Safety is Cross River Rail's top priority, and we expect our contractors to uphold the highest possible standards.

"Workplace Health and Safety Queensland is investigating the incident, and we expect our on-site contractors to cooperate fully with the safety regulator.

"The Delivery Authority, of course, will also assist in any way we can with the investigation."

The project was hit with claims of unsafe work conditions earlier this year over concerns workers were at risk of developing the deadly disease silicosis.

Cross River Rail is a new 10km rail line from Dutton Park to Bowen Hills in the city.

A koala has caused quite a stir when it paid an Adelaide Hills bottle shop an unexpected visit, strolling the store's aisles earlier this week.

In a video posted on social media by Grey's Inn hotel, the koala appeared unfazed by the stir it was causing as it calmly walked the aisles of the Mount Barker store.

While commenters on social media were quick with their quips about the animal looking to quench its thirst, koalas in fact are not believed to routinely drink at all, obtaining most of their fluids from eucalyptus leaves as well as licking water off the trees.

Many koala populations were decimated in the Black Summer bushfires of 2019-2020 and the iconic animal became officially listed as endangered in 2022.

However, parts of South Australia are home to a thriving population with the South Australian Wildlife Department reporting a recent upswing in numbers.
