CCTV sought of Guy Sebastian 'towering over' neighbour

Guy Sebastian has been ordered to hand over CCTV footage a lawyer says will show him holding a brick and "towering over" his much older neighbour.

The singer, 41, sought an apprehended violence order against his 66-year-old neighbour Phillip Richard Hanslow following a feud between the pair in suburban Sydney.

The order was granted in February.

Hanslow was also charged with intimidating Sebastian and damaging his fence.

The matter returned to Waverley Local Court on Thursday.

Hanslow's lawyer Bryan Wrench told the court a subpoena would force Sebastian to hand over footage.

"That footage was not provided to the police, and it would show Mr Sebastian with a brick in his hand towering over our client. That's why we're quite concerned that it is served and produced," Wrench said.

Sebastian's solicitor had said two weeks would be needed to provide the footage, Wrench said.

Magistrate Jacqueline Milledge ordered the subpoena to be returned on March 23.

The dispute arose over a fence, which Hanslow was fixing to match the look of Sebastian's multimillion-dollar neighbouring Maroubra property, Mr Wrench said.

"I should say, that fence has now been fully repaired on his side to match (Sebastian's)," Wrench said.

Phillip Richard Hanslow was charged over an alleged neighbour dispute with Guy Sebastian.

The magistrate replied: "What do they say, good fences make good neighbours?"

Wrench sought to have proceedings discontinued and told the court it was not a matter of domestic violence.

"It's personal violence. It still belongs here," Ms Milledge said.

Leaving court, Mr Wrench told reporters his client would continue fighting.

"We're looking forward to clearing our name in this matter," Mr Wrench said.

Hanslow previously told the court he was dealing with several health issues.

"I just spent four hours on the operating table," he said as he walked from the building on Thursday.

Sebastian was not present for the hearing.

The dispute between the neighbours has been simmering for years, sparked by the purchase, knockdown and rebuild of the house on the 1400sqm block neighbouring Hanslow's property.

The three-level concrete and glass home designed by architect Joe Snell has attracted comparisons to a fortress and overlooks neighbouring properties.

The project began in 2016 and the home was completed in 2019.

Sebastian told a Brisbane radio station in 2019 that one of his neighbours was "a bit filthy at everyone".

Hanslow is living at a different address in southwest Sydney.

Russia targets Ukrainian energy infrastructure in missile attack

Russia unleashed a massive missile barrage across Ukraine early Thursday, targeting energy infrastructure in the first attack on such a scale in three weeks. Ukrainian officials reported injuries and hits on residential buildings.

Air raid sirens wailed for hours across Ukraine, including the capital, Kyiv, where explosions occurred in two western areas of the city. Defence systems were activated around the country, and it wasn't clear how many missiles struck targets or were intercepted.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said explosions were reported in the Holosiivskyi district and emergency services were heading there. Two people were wounded in the Sviatoshynskyi district, also on the west side of the city, and cars were ablaze there, the mayor added.

In eastern Ukraine, 15 missiles struck Kharkiv and the outlying northeastern region, hitting residential buildings, according to Kharkiv Governor Oleh Syniehubov. He promised to reveal more details about the scale of the damage or any casualties in Ukraine's second-largest city.

"Objects of critical infrastructure is again in the crosshairs of the occupants," he said in a Telegram post.

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported on Telegram that there were "problems with electricity" in some parts of the city.

The governor of the southern Odesa region, Maksym Marchenko, also reported strikes on Odesa, saying that energy facilities and residential buildings were hit. Marchenko warned on Telegram for people to stay in shelters.

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is occupied by Russian forces, lost power as a result of the missile attacks, according to nuclear state operator Energoatom.

It was the sixth time the plant was in a state of blackout since it was taken over by Russia months ago, forcing it to rely on 18 diesel generators that can run the station for 10 days, Energoatom said. Nuclear plants need constant power to run cooling systems and avoid a meltdown.

"The countdown has begun," Energoatom said.

Ukraine's Energy Minister, Herman Halushchenko, condemned the missile strikes as "another barbaric massive attack on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine," saying in a Facebook post that facilities in Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk and Zhytomyr regions had been targeted.

Ukrainian Railways reported power outages in certain areas, with 15 trains delayed up to an hour.

Preventive emergency power cuts were applied in Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and Odesa regions, supplier DTEK said. Klitschko said 40 per cent of consumers in Kyiv were without heating because of the emergency power cuts. Water supplies were uninterrupted, he said.

More explosions were reported in the northern city of Chernihiv and the western Lviv region, as well as in the cities of Dnipro, Lutsk and Rivne. Ukrainian media also reported explosions in the western regions of Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil.

Russia has been hitting Ukraine with these massive missile attacks since last October. Initially, the barrages targeting the country's energy infrastructure took place weekly, plunging the entire cities into darkness, but became more spread out in time, with commentators speculating that Moscow may be saving up ammunition.

The last massive barrage took place on February 16.

Apartment complex in Sydney plagued by serial balcony vomiter

Residents of unit complex in a Sydney inner-city suburb say they're at their wits end with one occupant who continually vomits off their balcony, directly onto unsuspecting neighbours below.

People living in the complex in Redfern, three kilometres from the CBD, say a neighbour who lives on an upper floor throws up over the side of the balcony so frequently that it's now become a serious issue.

Clothes and furniture below have been doused on more than one occasion, which has prompted fierce calls from neighbours for the perpetrator to stop the revolting act.

"Why is it so hard for whoever is vomiting over the side of their balcony and causing your vomit to land on the balconies, furniture, drying clothes etc of everyone else below you to simply not do it?" one note posted to a common area of the building read, according to The Daily Telegraph.

"If you seem to have this uncontrollable urge to vomit whenever you are on your balcony maybe you should keep a bucket on your balcony so you can vomit into that instead?

"Maybe we should all send our balcony cleaning bills to you?"

Another note posted inside the same complex also lashed the feral behaviour.

"To the disgusting person who keeps on vomiting over the edge of their balcony, stop doing it," the infuriated resident wrote.

"Your neighbours don't appreciate cleaning your vomit off our balconies, outdoor furniture, our clothes we are drying outside, or ourselves if we're outside trying to enjoy using our balcony when you decide to vomit over the edge."

According to reports, the incidents occurred multiple times over the space of eight months.

Logan mayor pleads guilty to corruption charges, may leave Queensland

A former Queensland mayor has gone from a "rooster to a feather duster" after being charged by the state's corruption watchdog, a court has heard.

Luke Smith, 53, may leave the state to move on from misconduct offences, his barrister Jeffrey Hunter said.

The former Logan City Council mayor, whose full name is Timothy Luke Smith, was charged five years ago, following a Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) probe.

He will be sentenced by Judge David Kent in Brisbane District Court on Friday.

Smith has pleaded guilty to receipt of a secret commission, failing to update his register of interests and misconduct in public office.

All of the offences occurred while he was Logan mayor.

His barrister has detailed how Smith's life had changed since the CCC charges.

Smith is "teetering on the brink of bankruptcy" after his family home was sold and his marriage failed.

He has had stints as a car detailer and security officer.

Smith – who has dealt with alcohol and mental health problems – currently lives at his brother's house.

"The fact that he held that high office, he's really gone from, I'll use the expression, rooster to a feather duster," Hunter said at Thursday's sentencing hearing.

"This has been personally catastrophic for him."

Hunter said he had noticed a marked shift in Smith with the long-running legal matter now approaching an end, but noted that moving on may involve his client leaving the state.

Regarding the secret commission charge, crown prosecutor Mark Green said Smith "acted corruptly" when he received a luxury 7.5m boat from a political donor in 2016.

The donor was a director of SKL Cables, which had submitted a development application to Logan Council for a 15-storey building at Springwood.

The council's building height restriction is 10 storeys.

It is alleged Smith obtained the $95,000 boat to progress the development approval for the building.

On Thursday, the court heard Smith had regularly met with SKL Cables directors discussing the development, telling one he "had the (council) votes for something that would assist the application".

In August 2016, Smith asked an SKL director whether he could buy a colleague's powerboat and was told he could "use it" but not purchase it.

The same month the boat was transferred over to Smith, who also paid insurance, repairs and storage for the vessel.

Smith later sold the boat for $39,000, spending $19,000 with the rest kept in his account.

"The defendant did not pay a purchase price for the boat at any stage before the boat was sold," Green said.

Smith never declared the boat on his register of interests as required.

After giving evidence at a June 2017 CCC hearing into councillor misconduct allegations, Smith rang an SKL Cables director and told them he could no longer be involved in "all this", Green said.

The misconduct charge relates to allegations Smith interfered in the recruitment of Logan Council director Jane Frawley between June and July 2017.
