'Are you kidding me?': Woman fined $3635 for speeding 6km/h over limit

Under Victoria's current road rules, exceeding the speed limit by less than 10km/h in a corporate vehicle will result in a fine of more than $3000.

A Melbourne woman found that out the hard way after copping a $3635 fine for speeding 6km/h over the speed limit in a 60km/h zone on March 3 in Melbourne's east.

Jane Agirtan took to social media in anger, uploading a TikTok that has since been viewed more than 722,000 times.

The TikTok is captioned with the comment, "A bit excessive, no?"

In the clip, Ms Agirtan can be heard saying, "Six kilometres… Are you kidding me? Six kilometres, are you serious?"

The clip also shows that Ms Agirtan was busted back in January for going 106km/h in an 100km/h zone, resulting in a $3661.20 fine.

On the Fines Victoria website, it states that if a company car is issued an infringement notice, the driver must be nominated in order for demerit points to be applied to their licence.

"For some offences, companies will initially receive a company fine over $3000. This larger amount is to encourage the company to nominate the responsible driver," the website says.

"Once you have nominated the responsible driver, that driver will receive a new fine in their name, and the penalty payable will be at the individual rate and should be significantly lower."

Responding to comments on the social media site, Ms Agirtan said she had nominated herself as the driver to bring it back to the normal cost.

PM says he won't allow Warringah candidate 'to be silenced'

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says he won't allow Katherine Deves to be silenced amid calls to dump the candidate for the Sydney seat of Warringah.

Ms Deves has drawn criticism for now-deleted social media posts, which included likening her lobbying to stop transgender athletes from competing in women's sport to standing up against the Holocaust.

Mr Morrison said Ms Deves "regrets" the comments she has made.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says he won't allow Katherine Deves to be silenced amid calls to dump the candidate for the Sydney seat of Warringah.

"That is not how she is proposing to go forward in highlighting the very important issue that she has been a strong campaigner on," he said.

"She is a woman, standing up for women and girls and their access to fair sport in this country."

Mr Morrison said he would continue to stand with the Warringah candidate.

"I'm not going to allow her to be silenced, I'm not going to allow her to be pushed aside as the pile-on comes in to try and silence her," Mr Morrison said.

"I'll stand up with her, my team is standing up with her, and we will make sure that she won't be silenced."

Ms Deves has drawn criticism for now-deleted social media posts.

Liberal Party state MP Felicity Wilson said women "need real advocates for our safety and opportunity" in an opinion piece in the Sydney Morning Herald.

"Somehow we find ourselves in a situation where national media attention is currently focused on a false ally," Ms Wilson said.

"In my community, I am being asked to vote for someone who is using equality for women as a thin veil to disguise offensive attacks on transgender people – a group of people clamouring for their own safety and opportunity."

Ms Wilson is one of several Liberal Party members who have commented on Ms Deve's social media posts.

NSW Liberal Matt Kean pushed the call for Ms Deves to be disendorsed.

Senator Anne Ruston earlier called Ms Deves comments "absolutely unacceptable" but backed away from moves to dump her.

Meanwhile, Minister for Women Marise Payne has refused to endorse Ms Deves.

Mr Morrison said in New South Wales he had to make some choices about the selection of 12 candidates along with the Premier and the former President of the Liberal Party.

"Half of them were women," he said.

"I chose the woman who put herself through the solicitor's administration board, who stood up for the women and girls in sport, and who is raising three of her own girls in that electorate right now, living in Manly.

"I think she will make a great Member of Parliament, she has learned in her advocacy and her private life the better ways to do things to take things forward as a member of parliament.

"I don't think she should be silenced because she has views that don't agree with others."
