The Ngāruawāhia woman died after a daylight brawl in Waikato.

The teen was subjected to a terrifying sexual assault that spanned several hours.

The brother of Olympic breakdancer Rachael Gunn, or Raygun, has been charged for allegedly dealing with money that was the proceeds of crime.

Brendan Gunn, from Camp Hill in Queensland, faced Sydney Downing Centre Local yesterday over one count against the Criminal Code.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) alleged he dealt with more than $100,000 in money or property that was reasonable to suspect were the proceeds of crime between March 19, 2020, and May 15, 2020, while director of Mormarkets — a role he has held since 2019.

Brendan allegedly dealt with two bank cheques, which contained four investments totalling $181,000, by three investors who deposited the funds to convert to cryptocurrency.

He opened several bank accounts to receive and transfer deposits on an ongoing basis.

ASIC alleged the bank accounts were repeatedly closed due to concerns about scams and Brendan was informed of these concerns.

Following an investigation, the matter was referred to the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions, who is prosecuting the case in court.

Brendan is facing a maximum penalty of three years' imprisonment, a $37,800 fine or both.

He will return to court on April 29. 

ASIC chair Joe Longo said this case reflected his commitment to pursue those who are allegedly involved in facilitating cross-border scams targeting Australian investors.

"ASIC continues to prioritise scam prevention and detection activity to protect consumers," he said in a statement.

"We will continue to partner with international law enforcement organisations and investigate and take action where we see misconduct."

Brendan holds several positions as director at Geomarkets, Celcius, ODESI and The Hive International and, on social media, writes that he is "following the lifelong dream of being a successful entrepreneur".

He is the brother of Raygun, who became a household name after her viral breakdancing performance in the sport's debut at the Paris Olympics last year. 

In a social media post at the time, Brendan said he "could not be prouder of my amazing sister" and that she will "always be a winner to me".

Australia is now one of seven Western countries ranked in the worst 50 for terrorism, according to a new study.

The findings were part of the Global Terrorism Index 2025 released today, and come after the warning from the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation that "lone wolf" terror attacks remain a major threat.

Researchers say the Gaza conflict has caused instability in the Middle East and has stoked terror attacks in the West.

Australia was hit by five incidents over the past year, up from zero in 2023, the report said.

Last month, ASIO director-general Mike Burgess in a threat assessment, warned Australia's biggest terrorism threat "remains a lone actor using an easily obtained weapon".

The spy chief also raised concerns about young Australians being caught up in "webs of hate, both religiously and ideologically motivated" and predicted tough times for social cohesion with spikes in communal violence.

Based on the past year, Australia fell 13 spots to 46th place on the Global Terrorism Index, with the lower the ranking reflecting a poorer terrorism situation.

Australia and is among seven nations in the West among the worst 50. They are Germany (27th), the US (34th), France (40th), the UK (41st), Canada (48th), and Sweden (50th).

The Global Terrorism Index is produced by international think tank the Institute for Economics & Peace and has been published annually for the last 12 years.

The man was on bail after a chaotic 28km chase through Auckland.

Footage has captured the moment a shark was spotted swimming close to a popular swimming spot on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula.

The shark caught the attention of swimmers near the Point King Beach jetty in Sorrento yesterday.

It could have been a close call for swimmers who were enjoying the warm weather in Melbourne.

Onlookers believed the shark was about two metres long.

It comes as Melburnians enjoy the warm weather, with temperatures set to reach 32 degrees today before dipping to 25 degrees tomorrow.

The warmth won't be short-lived, though, as temperatures are expected to climb back to 33 degrees over the weekend.

Democratic congressman Al Green was removed from the chamber as President Donald Trump begun his address to Congress and the American people, laying out his plans for the months ahead.

"The presidential election of November 5 was a mandate like has not been seen in many decades," Trump said as he began his speech.

"You have no mandate," Democratic representative Al Green countered.

Republicans quickly jumped to their feet with chants of "USA! USA!"

Green was then removed from the House chamber.

Republican members cheered at his removal, shouting "Get out!" and "Goodbye!" at the politician.

Green shouted, "You have no mandate to cut Medicaid!" at Trump before police escorted him from the chamber.

The circular black signs have bold white lettering including the statements "Protect Veterans," "Save Medicaid," "False" and "Musk Steals."

Some Democrats held the signs higher as the president began his remarks.
