Police are investigating the sudden death of a two-year-old girl in Queensland.

The dead child was taken to Mackay Base Hospital at about 8.30pm on Thursday.

An autopsy will be conducted to find out the cause of death.

Police said investigations into the circumstances are ongoing.

"There is no further information available at this time," a spokesperson said.
